Professional growers and seed vendors need to read this, Marijuana genetic stability and health of the plant finally answered.

There was a recent advancement in the field of cannabis genomic research, The study was published Friday (July 16) in the journal Science Advances. This study is groundbreaking as it attempts to finally solve the elusive mystery of cannabises origins through genetic testing.

This study answers a great many questions I have had regarding the origins of marijuana. For instance its been the general consensus that cannabis grew wildly in china before it was domesticated much later. However there is a reason to believe based on this studies new genomic testing that cannabis had been domesticated in northern china much earlier then was previously thought.
China has always played an important part in understanding domesticated crops and their history. A quote from the study.

"The results also indicate that some of the current Chinese landraces and feral plants represent the closest descendants of the ancestral gene pool from which hemp and marijuana landraces and cultivars have since derived. East Asia has been shown to be an important ancient hot spot of domestication for several crop species, including rice, broomcorn and foxtail millet, soybean, foxnut, apricot, and peach"

I know no one will believe this but I just had a comment about this possibility yesterday on one of the posts by https://ecency.com/@loonatic. From there I began further researching the topic & I came across this article after I posted this

https://ecency.com/hive-195708/@loonatic/weekend-tent-update
So I just so happen to find out GG#4 Gorilla Glue Number 4 has Chocolate Thai
in its lineage. This is one of the descendants from Thai stick a Asian land race now extinct. What an odd coincidence but it is a coincidence so my hypothesis backed by genetic testing on accident.

Directly from the studies downloadable resources this map shown below and the accompanying text below it better explains the study.

Fig. 1 Population structure of Cannabis accessions.
(A) Geographic distribution (i.e., sampling sites of feral plants or country of origin of landraces and cultivars) of the samples analyzed in this study. Color codes correspond to the four groups obtained in the phylogenetic analysis and shapes indicate domestication types. The two empty red squares symbolize drug-type cultivars obtained from commercial stores located in Europe and the United States. For sample codes, see table S1. (B) Maximum likelihood phylogenetic tree based on single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) at fourfold degenerate sites, using H. lupulus as outgroup. Bootstrap values for major clades are shown. (C) Bayesian model–based clustering analysis with different number of groups (K = 2 to 4). Each vertical bar represents one Cannabis accession, and the x axis shows the four groups. Each color represents one putative ancestral background, and the y axis quantifies ancestry membership. (D) Nucleotide diversity and population divergence across the four groups. Values in parentheses represent measures of nucleotide diversity (π) for the group, and values between pairs indicate population divergence (FST). (E) Principal component analysis (PCA) with the first two principal components, based on genome-wide SNP data. Colors correspond to the phylogenetic tree grouping.

This scientific study is a lot to digest in a single sitting so ill give some highlights but if your a weed nerd read the whole thing classy power points and stuff its awesome.

Broad strokes they did a new genetic sequencing with the largest most inclusive number of genetic test samples of cannabis ever. Here's an important quote from the study
"On the basis of an unprecedented global sampling effort, we provide here such framework by compiling 110 whole genomes covering the full spectrum of wild-growing feral plants, landraces, historical cultivars, and modern hybrids from both hemp and drug types, with a particular focus on central and eastern Asia because of their hypothesized importance for the species’ origins of domestication."

What great news my fears of cannabis are routed in its domestication & subsequent intentional or otherwise genetic bottle neck. This study also upsets the previously established archeological evidence pointing to cannabis originally being domesticated around 12,000 years ago.

According to the study the genetics cannabis really started being domesticated 5,000 years ago. This is a relief we haven't destroyed the cannabis genetics to the levels I previously thought through domestication.

Though this isn't as bad as I thought its still not great as many growers already know genetic instability is quite common in certain strains. Now nothing is conclusive as I'm not a geneticist just a pothead construction worker meaning I'm likely not interpreting everything correctly.

It is possible they found something I had been searching for with this study, a genetic propensity toward illness in marijuana I had hypothesized that the answer lied in THCV.

I'm wrong shocking I know

How you get THCV Wiki

Unlike THC, cannabidiol (CBD), and cannabichromene (CBC), THCV doesn’t begin as cannabigerolic acid (CBGA). Instead of combining with olivetolic acid to create CBGA, geranyl pyrophosphate joins with divarinolic acid, which has two fewer carbon atoms. The result is cannabigerovarin acid (CBGVA). Once CBGVA is created, the process continues exactly the same as it would for THC. CBGVA is broken down to tetrahydrocannabivarin carboxylic acid (THCVA) by the enzyme THCV synthase. At that point, THCVA can be decarboxylated with heat or UV light to create THCV.

Turns out I should have kept it simple stupid its not another THCV production the plant is lacking its a CBDAS & THCAS one. quote:

"The two synthases are encoded by the genes CBDAS and THCAS, which belong to the berberine bridge enzyme (BBE)–like multigene family, from which they possibly arose by duplication and neofunctionalization [reviewed in (41)]. When involved in secondary metabolism, the homologs of these genes likely play a major role in chemical plant defense."

Mabey its even possible to balance all 5 CBD, THC,THCV, CBDAS and THCAS That however is my speculation the actually qualified individuals responsible for the study point to an existing strain that's remarkably stable.
https://www.leafly.com/strains/jamaican-lion

Jamaican lion had to be omitted as it skewed the data Jamaican lion tested as quote
"a strain in which full-length coding sequences for THCAS, CBDAS, and more than 30 pseudogene copies of these genes are assembled"

Later on in that same section it highlights the land races as being inherently more likely to produce both THCA and CBDA with CBDAS & THCAS usually being in favor of one or the other making it slightly more stable.

The Feral form of Sativa has long since gone extinct according to this study all feral cannabis in Asian territories tested are domesticated escapees. A quote

"All feral plants studied here are not wild types, but historical escapes from domesticated forms. Although additional sampling of feral plants in these key geographical areas is still needed, our results, which are based on very broad sampling already, would suggest that pure wild progenitors of C. sativa have gone extinct."

Conclusion

I set out to better understand a phenomenon I experienced with certain strains when grown outdoors in my area and this study answered many of my questions as to why.

The phenomenon being Gorilla Glue Number 4 & a few other strains like cherry pie resisting Mold and disease in very moist conditions like swamps found near where I grow. Technically it is swamp land not near it but in it we have very humid conditions and high precipitation in Sothern Michigan. At least during the growing season, I'm not a rookie I know my shit strains I grow account for the growth cycle being shorter.

Despite that certain strains do much better here in resisting disease pests and mold. This study may help anyone on weedcash better understand why we have so much genetic instability.

But even better then understanding why, which most of us theorized genetic bottle necking through purposeful phenotype selection. We now have an answer as to how we can fight this with a strain in particular to check out

Growers we have our homework cut out for us but we now have a very important piece of the puzzle understanding cannabis health & some previously unknown contributing factors THCAS & CBDAS production.

Now I'm definitely not the best source of info please read the study

What I'm smoking

To busy with breakthroughs to remember to get bud, however I'm never out so just smoking a bowl of some pot truth be told dont even know what it is.

I had the last few days off and I have been going hard in the paint, but I think this is lemon haze its a little hazy.

NFT nonsense

1626727786210.png

I have two hobbies blockchain and Bud, Even when I'm researching breakthroughs in marijuana I'm still messing with my NFTs. ADD working in my favor, cant focus for shit but 12 tasks all at once no problem.
image.png
Green Rabbit a colection made by a California dispensary has been the top colection on WAX for 9 days. Someone has spent over $27,000 on it I got my mining equipment NFTs for roughly $6 so please dont miss out mining starts on the 21st.
https://wax.atomichub.io/explorer/collection/greenrabbit

Now on to my favorite colection splinterlands that is currently making me a mint
image.png
That is close to $250 USD worth of DEC so needless to say sold another Legendary Gold card.

Right before SPS launch to so this will be really fun to see how this plays out. Just for reference in roughly 3 days I just made $600, minimum wage in the US full time with taxes taken out is $194 for a 40 hour work week. Getting into NFTs and crypto are the best things to ever happen to me by far.

Right now Splinterlands is one of my best choices by far, over 8 months I accumulated 40 Legendary NFTs not counting the 100 + I sold. Those are now all more or less double their price when I started & they have never been cheap. an approximation of my asset value in game alone is just over $1,000 & I'm conservative with that estimate. Also sold over $3,000 worth of NFTs from them yeah I have money in it but not much out of pocket honestly just patience and potions mostly.
image.png
It gets easier but the trick is you have to do it every day
image.png
Above the Splinterlands card Peer to Peer P2P asset market sale volume

Just because I'm having such good luck I'm paying it forward with the free NFTs today. Giving the lucky reader a Gold Splinterlands Card which can be rented out or sold if your not able to play as in your didn't get the $10 spell book.

My advice rent it until dice packs are gone it will triple in value

Free NFT 1 time airdrop URL

I try to include a single claim airdrop URL for WAX wallet users containing free NFTs, It may only be claimed by the first lucky person to click the link. After claimed once the URL will no longer be active. The lucky reader should receive 6 NFTs if you received less then 6 check your whitelist settings. Get that gold card!!

Prospectors topping the NFT sale value for 3 days now also a free to play game check it out at the link below. BTW they have roulette so the Martingale system works here however no site reward and its not a large project so doing this could be detrimental. this game is free it makes real crypto give it a shot its not bad honestly you can make quite a bit on it.

Interesting find, I don't look much into strains as most have lost the original ones.

But this would be interested to know for growing 🤔

right I have scratched my head for years wondering the why certain plants are just naturally healthier in detrimental conditions. When you control the environment enough its a non issue but outside is a different story, this more or less solved it. by focusing on industrial hemp or psychoactive compound production we have caused a imbalance in the cannabises secondary metabolism. Now essentially all cannabis lacks a fully functioning one except jamaican-lion. this explains phenotype instability as well however most already knew it was a result of selective breeding.
