VCV LAB - Relativity

I pick up from where I left off about a week ago with my adventures into the modular synth world using the fantastic VCV which opens up a whole host of possibilities. I am hoping to build up some familiarity with the software versions of the hardware modules enough to know what to buy. I very much want to get into that at some point or to create a hybrid of software and hardware at least.

So here is this week's creation...

It's my first foray into the Drum and Bass world with a bit of glitch thrown in. It uses a combination of my favourite modules and some new ones I've learnt about recently. One thing I'd very much like to do as part of future posts is to break things down a little, taking a small subset of modules at a time, to write about their features and document this musical journey because it's very engrossing indeed. I can see why people fall in love with modular. That said, I've only touched upon the virtual so far and have yet to buy a single rack or module! That's not a bad thing because when I do, I will spend my money more wisely.

I always use Mind Meld's MixMaster mixer for projects, especially as a hub for different "voices" in the patch. That is an advantage of modular over perhaps some desktop systems, is that since you are building the thing yourself, you aren't limited to just 6 voice polyphony, you can add as many as you want or indeed as little as you need. Sometimes the minimal configurations are the best because imposing limits encourages you to make the best use of what you have.

I've used 13 tracks for this patch, as we have a lot going on here. There are 3 melody tracks, 5 drum related tracks that blend synth and sample, bass, glitch sounds, vox, white noise and a chord sequence.

Anyway, have a listen to the track which I will later record some other versions of, as I feel there is a lot of options with this patch and it's worth noodling around with it some more.
