The asteroid 2021 NY1 will visit us

On Wednesday, September 22, the asteroid 2021 NY1 will approach us, the asteroid is not giant as some media have said, nor will it impact the earth and therefore we should not worry.

For an asteroid to be considered a giant it should be at least tens of kilometers in diameter and by 2021 NY1 is only between 130 to 300 meters in diameter, by length it would be the size of a ship, this asteroid travels at about 33660 kilometers per hour and in case of impact with the earth it would cause a lot of damage, it is true, but it would be local damage, it would not be the end of the world nor the end of humanity.

The asteroid will pass or brush with the earth, this is not very clear, there is no precise criterion to say when an asteroid brushes the earth or passes through the earth, sometimes it is said when the asteroid passes closer to us than it is Moon.

For me, rubbing should be used when the asteroid passes outside the sphere of satellites that orbit the earth, that area is a part of our civilization and we could say that it extends up to 35,000 or 40,000 kilometers away from the Earth's surface. For example, geostationary satellites are 35,786 kilometers high, although there are asteroids that actually skim the earth and even bounce off the Earth's atmosphere to go back into space.
