Another new animal discovered

Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Harvard University have discovered a new species of giant rhinoceros that lived more than 23 million years ago in the current Chinese province of Gansu, located on the eastern northern limit of the Tibetan Plateau.

It was one of the largest land mammals that ever existed, it measured 6 meters to the shoulders and weighed more than 20 tons, it has received the name of Paraceratherium linxiaense, the scientists discovered remains of two of these animals, on the one hand a skull and a fully preserved jaw, and on the other hand, two thoracic vertebrae belonging to another individual.

The find, in addition to revealing a surprising new animal from the past, provides us with information about the evolution of the earth, since the presence of these giants implies that the place had a more pleasant climate and that the Tibet region had not yet risen. and transformed into the cold and dry high plateau that it is today.
