Visiting the famous Botanical Garden (Naples, Italy)

ENG

Dear Hivers friends,

Welcome back to my Blog!

When I visit a new city, the thing I always like to do is go in search of its botanical garden. In fact, I love visiting parks and I think they are the perfect photograph of a civilization because plants can tell very ancient stories!

Cari amici Hivers,

During my trip to Naples, therefore, I went to visit the botanical garden and I discovered a real gem.

This garden was founded in 1807 by will of King Joseph Bonaparte. In the documents of the time you can read that the purpose of this foundation was to educate the public and propagate spices useful for health, agriculture and industry.

Over the centuries, the park was significantly expanded, and today the surface is about 12 hectares, with 900 plant species and 25,000 different specimens!

The botanical garden of Naples is worth a visit of about half a day.

You can see herbaceous plants, trees and shrubs that come from all over Europe and the world!

Obviously, it changes a lot according to the seasons, so one visit might not be enough to appreciate everything.

The map of the park is very simple and includes: the entrance staircase, the castle and the greenhouse.

To my great pleasure I also managed to see the part dedicated to carnivorous plants, which are my passion. The botanical garden hosts interesting species such as Sarracenia and Dionaea.

L’orto botanico ospita specie interessanti come Sarracenia e Dionaea.

So lush and green. It looks peaceful and full of wonder. I liked this particular photograph with the prehistoric looking plant

I don't know if you understand from the photo, but the dimensions are really huge! 😆 I also have a small Agave this this in my the garden, it will be about 60 times smaller than this 😆
Thank you very much for your comment and have a nice day 😊

It looks massive and magnificent. Agave is an interesting looking plant with those thick leaves. It doesn't grow where I live unfortunately. So it's great to see it.

I never thought about how plants could tell stories of civilizations — that’s such a beautiful way to see it. I’ve never been to Naples, but now I really want to visit the botanical garden someday

Yes, for example you can discover ancient traditions of peoples through the remains of the plants that were grown. Very often the medicinal plants and those used in the kitchen are depicted on the frescoes 😍
Thank you very much for the comment, have a nice day 😊
