TBHQ, the Chemical

As defined by the NIH they state,

" t-Butylhydroquinone is a white to a tan, crystalline powder. It is also an inert ingredient in some ant and roach insecticides."

What they forget to mention, the chemical is found in photographic film developers and processes used to reduce silver. It's also used as an element in multiple pesticide 1.

With FDA approval for human consumption, it's in our food:

  • Frozen, non-organic fish products
  • Soft drinks
  • Some soy milk brands
  • Some Meats
  • Frozen fish products

Other products which contain the chemical are pet food, lacquers, resins, varnishes and health care products such as lipstick, eye shadow, perfumes and skin care 2.
