A technical problem prevented the Math problem from getting published at exactly 03:00 P.M. (GMT+8).

Even though I scheduled the post on #Ecency with the correct date and time, I noticed that the post was still on my scheduled posts past the scheduled posting time.

My answer is 3.74185 meters as the height.
Let h = height and w = width.
As the degree is from the top down, I flipped height and width for slope % to get the inverse (using 32.5% gives you a greater height than width because the % is for the wrong triangle angle).

  1. tan(32.5) = w/h --> w = tan(32.5)h
  2. 8^2 = h^2 + w^2 --> 64 = h^2 + (tan(32.5))^2 h
  3. h = 8/sqrt((tan(32.5))^2+1)) = 3.74185 meters (8 comes from sqrt(64))

To double check:

  1. w = (3.74185)*tan (32.5) = 7.070986 meters
    w^2+h^2 = 8 so it works

The double check phase is w^2 + h^2 = 8^2 by mistake. I won't edit as it would mess up the rules.

Am I the only one starting to think these aren't so much math problems as they are @savvyplayer's excuse to write real person fiction about @chrisrice and @jancharlest?๐Ÿ˜€ Not saying that's a problem. I am the administrator of a fan fiction community so I get it if that's really what is going on.๐Ÿ˜

I want to make the problems as "Hive-themed" as possible. ๐Ÿ˜…

Yeah, might be good to mix it up with other #HIVE users.

  • There is a list of 29 @dbuzz users at the bottom of this post:

I don't know other people enough to include them in my parodies and examples. Only you and @jancharlest allowed me to do so. ๐Ÿ˜…

(Edited)

You could always use celebrities who are non-HIVE members to mix it up a bit ๐Ÿ˜Š

I want my challenges to be as Hive-themed as possible. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜

Maybe you could use #Dapp names instead of people?

Not many people using D.Buzz use different Hive dapps. ๐Ÿค” Nevertheless, if they see the names @chrisrice the Chief Human Resources Officer of D.Buzz and @jancharlest the Not Financial Advisor Expert Trader in D.Buzz, then they will find it fun and engaging! ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜…

Well, its best to base your opinions on feedback, not just what You or I think.

It could potentially look like you are only interested in the 2 of us, and no one else ๐Ÿ˜•

I only tag people when they explicitly tell me they allow me, and if I already know them enough. I don't even know a lot about @jancharlest. ๐Ÿค”

Yeah, but maybe there is a different way to make it #HIVE themed.

Maybe you can use the names of Dapp owners from the #Top10, without explicidly tagging them.

Just hashtag their names:

Otherwise it might not have enough variety.

I'll just ask D.Buzz active users if they want their usernames to be used for my Math problems. ๐Ÿ™‚

I don't want people asking me why I use their names on my posts, so I want them to directly tell me if they allow me to do so. ๐Ÿ˜จ

Answer for Day 7 Math Problem

4.30 meters ๐ŸŽฏ

The problem is under trigonometry.

Let A be the point where the tip of @jancharlest's laser gun is at. Let B be the point where the target @chrisrice is. Let C be the point of intersection of the vertical line where @jancharlest is at and the horizontal ground line, which has an angle of 90ยฐ.

Since the aim of @jancharlest is basically a laser point on the target, the target @chrisrice will be represented as a point. @jancharlest is aiming 32.5ยฐ downwards, which is the same angle as @chrisrice looking up to @jancharlest's laser gun tip.

We now have a logical triangle ABC. The given data are AC = 8 meters, ACB = 90ยฐ, and ABC = 32.5%. By derivation, we get CAB = 57.5% by deducting the two known angles from 180ยฐ which is the sum of all angles of a triangle. Since all angles are known, we can use either the Law of Sines, Law of Cosines, or Law of Tangents. For this solution, we use the Law of Sines because it is the most simple among the three formulas.

Law of Sines: a / sin (A) = b / sin (B) = c / sin (C)
For the original problem, we will use b / sin (B) = c / sin (C)

In this solution, [side b] is AC (which is the unknown in this equation) and angle B is CBA or 32.5ยฐ, while [side c] is 8 meters and angle C is ACB or 90ยฐ.

AC / sin (32.5ยฐ) = 8 meters / sin (90ยฐ)
AC / 0.5373 = 8 meters / 1
AC = 0.5373 * 8 meters
AC = 4.2984 meters

Therefore, the distance between the ground and @jancharlest's laser gun tip, or basically the height, is approximately 4.30 meters. We can have multiple solutions for the problem, but the answer shall be the same.

To help understand the big picture, here is an image I made using Microsoft Paint:

Winner: none ๐Ÿคฏ

I should post another Math problem soon to complete the 7 days with 7 winning answers.

@chrisrice

I found out that not a single upvote (not even a 1% upvote) was given to this comment of mine for which I spent about an hour just explaining my solution. ๐Ÿ˜ข

I just got my post boosted by @ecency worth about $0.486 (using 500 #Ecency Points)! ๐Ÿ˜

At least, I would not feel bad spending almost an hour just for explaining the solution to the Math problem about how I got my answer! ๐Ÿ˜…
