Math mini-contest problem for Day 3 😎

A get-together of 10 D.Buzz members plus @chrisrice and @emafe (for a total of 12 people) is done seated around a round table. If every attendee's seat is random, what is the probability that @chrisrice is seated beside @emafe?

My answer is 2/11 or 18.18%.

  1. Chrisrice is at seated at place A and there are 11 seats left
  2. Seat A has 2 adjacent seat
  3. Probability = 2/11 (Two seats next to chris and 11 possible places).

I agree with @jfang003

12(11)/2 = 66 possible pairs of seats
12/66 = 0.1818 = 18.18%

Don't get the win but I get to solve it my way.πŸ˜€

I guess you've never met a dumb blonde who can calculate 33% off a $117.68 dress on sale faster than a supercomputer.πŸ˜€

I think I am more good at logic, not in a math problem solving πŸ€”

I was going to say 1/11, but @jfang003's comment made me realize there are two seats and not one adjacent to our friend @ chrisrice. So 2/11...

I know the chance of @chrisrice being seated at any of the particular chairs, after they all sit down, is 1 out of 12 πŸ˜…

  • We need another math person on @dbuzz.

@edje, are you good at math?

Any PARTICULAR chair, meaning if one chair is specified there is a 1/12 chance he is sitting there πŸ‘

You said any of the particular chairs. You also did not say if you specified any chair before everyone got seated. πŸ€”

It's what I meant, but I may have worded it in an ambigious or unclear way βœ”οΈ

Oftentimes, exact sciences like Mathematics require strictness to deliver the messages accurately. πŸ€“

Maybe you could ask that on Discord instead. πŸ€” I'm too shy (again) to tell those facts about me publicly. 😰
