Math problem for Day 4 for April 2021 π
@jancharlest bought a 36-inch (diameter) round pizza for D.Buzz. When he removed a pizza slice whose pointed end is at the center, the remaining pizza's perimeter increased by 6 inches. What is the size of @jancharlest's pizza slice?

I went at it for like 10 minutes and couldn't figure it out so I will go with the dumb answer of "no solution". My geometry isn't the best.
3 inches
Posted via D.Buzz
73.47% of the whole pizza or 1495.75 sq.in.
so either @jancharlest is very hungry or I made a mistake :D

The original problem did not mention that @jancharlest ate all the pizza he took. π€ Of course there is the option of sharing with others the huge pizza slice he took! π
haha, indeed, good point! :D

I got 270 square inches for the size of the slice.
Shouldn't the answer intuitively have some fractional parts or be in terms of Ο? π€ Anyway, thanks for participating! π

I used the #pizza tag just because it was part of my Math problem featuring @jancharlest. π I did not know that I would get free PIZZA tokens just by using the tag! π

Answer for Day 4 Math Problem
Equivalent answers in other units or in terms of Ο shall be accepted.
Solution
The problem is about the area of the sector of the circle, since the problem asks for the size (area) of the pizza slice taken by @jancharlest. The problem states that when the pizza slice was removed, the perimeter of the remaining pizza increased by 6 inches.
The 6-inch increase in perimeter is equal to the increase of twice the radius of the circle minus the portion of the circumference that was gone. To get the percentage of the portion of the circumference that was gone (which is equal to the percentage of the entire pizza, because the vertex of the pizza slice is at the center of the circle), we will use the equation below.
Using the equation above, we get
6 = 2 * 18 - p * 36Ο
6 = 36 - p * 36Ο
-p * 36Ο = -30
p = -30/(-36Ο) = 5/(6Ο) β 0.7347 β 73.47%
Approximately 73.47% of the pizza was taken by @jancharlest, but we still need the area of the pizza. Since
area = Ο * radiusΒ²
which gives 324Ο square inches or approximately 1,017.88 inchesΒ², the size of @jancharlest's pizza slice is 1017.88 * 0.7347 β 747.88 square inches.Winner: none π€―

?? A pizza slice being 73% of the whole pizza???
The answer states 747.88 square inches. I got the other 27% for the slice which is about 270 square inches.
