Today's News Changes The Question
Yesterday I made a post about what counts as evidence of alien life. I have a feeling that after today nobody will ever again ask, “if aliens exist then why don’t they land on the White House lawn?".

No problem. So a signal was discovered that came from a distant planet, and it's theorized that the signal wouldn't occur naturally?

Right now the signal that was received is still being studied. The signal came from the direction of Proxima Centauri so the signal might be from Proxima Centauri or something that happened to line up in that direction. Currently there are 2 confirmed exoplanets in the Proxima Centauri system. The signal occupied a narrow band of the radio spectrum which normally doesn't occur in naturally produced radio emissions and the frequency varied in a way that would be expected of a signal transmitted from a moving planet. Almost everything else is speculation for now.
