Pipette tips. Those bring back memories. What volumes of pipette tips do you use in your secret laboratory?

Big enough to transfer volume as small as 1ul to about 1000ul.

I'm actually not familiar with the actual max capacity of those tips. Probably some weird number like 12.5ul or something.

Yeah that's the same size range that we used for chemistry analyses at the power plant. The range of error though as we approached the 1 ul range was too great to just use one size. We ended up having different pipettes tips from 1 ul through 1000 ul.

Analytical Chem definitely requires tighter ranges than microbiology.

I guess so, but microbiology just sounds cooler. The chemistry I did was more production based than experimental. New and more sensitive analyses were always being tested by companies like Westinghouse before being peddled to different power plants.

The cleanliness controls were pretty strict though. Bad results due to poor techniques was a constant fear. You never really appreciate the need for cleanliness when you realize changing a pipette tip would have made all the difference.
