Getting turned into a mindless zombie by a fungus might be one of the worst if not the worst way to go. Apparently this is the fate of many carpenter ants in Thailand.

The fungus, Ophiocordyceps unilateralis, would infect the carpenter ant unlucky enough to unknowingly come across the parasite as it forages. The zombified ant would then crawl towards the location that the parasite chooses (usually on the underside of a leaf) and die.
