Exploring Sentosa's Sensoryscape: Where Virtual Worlds and Real Lights Collide

I just got back from visiting the Sensoryscape, and I’m excited to share my experience with you all! I’ve been wanting to visit for a while, but it’s a bit far from my home, and the weather has been so unpredictable lately that I kept postponing my plans.

Thankfully, today everything went smoothly, and I finally made it there! In fact, the experience was even more extraordinary than I expected because the Sensoryscape features a light show that combines real-world lights with the virtual world using augmented reality. It was a blast, not only for me but for the kids and adults alike. This type of attraction appeals to everyone and offers a fun, immersive experience for all ages.

The Sensoryscape is part of the Sentosa development area, stretching from Imbiah Station to Beach Station. The attraction itself is free, but getting there requires taking the Sentosa Express, which is reasonably priced; almost the same as a regular MRT ride.

To get there, you’ll need to alight at HarbourFront Station, then take the lift or escalator up to the third level of the VivoCity shopping mall, where you'll find the entrance to Sentosa.

I boarded the train from VivoCity Station and got off at Imbiah Station.

When I arrived, I was greeted by a lovely mist fountain where kids were playing and having a great time. It was already 7 PM when I got to Sentosa, which was a bit early for the scheduled light show.

Along the way to the Glow Garden are structures that are meant for individual light shows. I must say that the structures themselves are already worth taking photos of as backgrounds. They're definitely worth sharing on social media!

The show starts at 7:50 PM, so I decided to walk around and check out the amenities in the area. There’s an indoor skydiving facility where you can experience the thrill of skydiving in a safe environment. It costs about $89 for a 90-minute session, which I think is worth it for the experience.

There are also plenty of restaurants and food trucks around, offering burgers, hotdogs, ice cream buns, and even tacos. These are great snacks you can enjoy by the beach.

After my walk, I headed back to Sensoryscape to watch the light show. Actually, there were multiple shows happening at the same time, including a fountain show near the beach and a fireworks display right after.

Since I was there to see the light show, I downloaded the app Imaginite, which is required to fully experience the augmented reality. The app and the light show are free, which explains why there were still so many people, even on a late Sunday evening.

The app is easy to download and activate; all I had to do was scan the QR code, and I was able to view the augmented reality features.

There are four augmented reality spots to explore, and I visited both the underwater world and the butterfly zone.

The experience was incredible because the show combines multiple elements.

First, there’s the structure, which is intricately designed to envelope the lights and create a fusion of real-world and virtual imagery. Then, there’s a set of colorful, projected lights on the structure, along with ambient lighting that simulates the colors of the AR experience. Finally, the augmented reality projections themselves are displayed through the app. Background music plays throughout, adding to the immersive atmosphere. The result is a stunning show that can be viewed through your AR camera via the app.

Overall, the Sensoryscape was an incredible experience, blending technology and nature into a memorable light show that’s truly one of a kind. If you’re ever in Sentosa, I highly recommend checking it out... you won’t be disappointed!
