It finally happened! That thing I was busy with for far too long has finally come to fruition. And now I can finally use the academic title: Bachelor of Science. This has been a rocky journey from the beginning to the end, as I started it back in 2008 and went to battle with it on and of over the past years. Sometime I didn't even think I would go through with contemplating if it was really still for me. The honest answer was "no, it's not for me", because as I was growing my career as a software developer, having a degree in electrical engineering became less and less relevant.

But I still decided at one point to go through with it and finish it, just because I had completed so much already and the end was in sight. It's also not a bad thing to have the title as some kind of proof that you're not all that bad up there in your head.

So yesterday the day finally came for me to present my thesis, and everything went smoothly. How could it not go smoothly, the moment was years in the making. The research itself was very appropriate for the things I'm interested in right now. I researched a feasible model for DApp (Decentralized Application) development for IT-companies in Suriname who want to start with this practice.

Afterwards I felt a weight lift of my shoulders. Even more so this morning. All my future plans seem closer now, as if I've been mentally putting them off until I finished this one thing. Well, that one thing is done, so now onto the next bigger and better challenge

Lutan Fyah says it well: Never give up.
Not always does the path seem like what you expected to be, but as long as you can go forward and you have reason to do so, do it. And you will reach the destination.

What do you have to watch out for where you live?

Two things:

  1. congrats! Isn't it a great feeling when all your hard work pays off?! Happy for ya, man.
  2. what the hell kind of bachelor's program has a thesis to defend? That's a masters degree level thing here. I remember having a capstone project that required a lot of research and data synthesis, but no formal defense was required, just a presentation of my findings and a short QnA... Wait... Was that a defense?! Anyways, your educational institution sounds hardcore! Kudos for finishing it out!

Thanks a lot!
Yes, you are right, it wasn't a formal defense. Here in Suriname at our only university BSc research is sometimes close to masters level in terms of complexity which makes it feel like a defense. This is because of remnants in the curriculum from the transition from the old system where you got the title of drs. (doctorandus) which was split up into the modern BaMa system.

I changed it to "present" in the post to avoid further confusion. 😅

Congrats man! That research sounds like it was all worth it! With these degrees and certs they are like guns in the hood, you hope you will never have to use it but better to not be caught without it.

This is a creative way to explain it, but I completely agree with it. It also helps to underline what you're already capable of.

Wooohoooooooo......!
CONGRATULATIONS!
That was an awesome effort and so well worth it too I'm sure it will be!

There is no such things as bad education, because even if it's bad, it's still education and knowledge that you can use all the way through your life, maybe not all of it every day, but a little bit every day!

Great job and a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS once again!

You have now inspired and motivated me to now time for me to get off Hive and do some study for the day too!

Thank you. The journey was well worth the effort, because I learned a lot along the way.

You have now inspired and motivated me to now time for me to get off Hive and do some study for the day too!

Maybe that's not even necessary, because Hive itself has so many opportunities to learn and study new things all over the world.

Yes and I'm sure you keep learning new things as offshoots to the stuff that you already leaned on the course!

I'm so proud of you my friend!

And I wholeheartedly agree that there is literally a world of opportunities to study and learn so many things through hive, but my study is this https://www.mylearningonline.com.au/our-course/certificate-in-animal-studies/ and I've only got another 8mnths to go to get it finished and I've only just finished the first subject- animal healthcare and into the common diseases in animals...

And starting a new f/t job tomorrow in the healthcare industry for aged care and NDIS services...Which I've never done before...😱...)

So I may have to take some nights off Hive...😱😱😱😱

Wow, this sounds exciting! Especially since its also in line with what you're studying. Well, except its people instead of animals. Or are the people like animals. Depends on how you look at it. 😂

Well I'm sure as you know, animals have more commonsense, compassion and definitely intelligence than too many humans...🤣..🙄

True. Although the dogs trying to bite me on my bike back in the day would disagree. 😂

That's right. Even things that started many years ago can be picked up and finished. I learned this lesson the hard way, but it was so worth it.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend as well!
