The Monochromatic South Goa!

1.jpg

I am on a vacation in Goa. Almost after a year, Since pandemic situation is little under control in Goa so I and my father planned a few days off over the beautiful beach.
I live in a landlock state and beaches are like once a year thing. Since Goa is a Portuguese Architectural paradise, I wanted to show what I have seen so far.
The major tourist attraction is North Goa. We landed at South Goa, so spending a day here was what we planned and it all turned out good.
The beach here are pretty clean and modest.

This side of goa is pretty economical and less crowded.
We went to see pretty famous church called 3 king chapel. It is considered haunted and has been features in dozens of Bollywood movies. I am quite neutral on haunted aspect. The church was closed and we were able to see just from outside.
It is actually located at a hilltop and the route was wonderfully pleasant, a clean road between the tropical field with a little steep slope, we rented bike and drove it all round the day.

I am in love with the monochrome theme today, as the church was all white and said to be haunted.
To be very honest unlike other Portuguese famous style of architecture's churches, this church called the three kings chapel isn't famous. It is just famous for its spooky aspect.
I wasn't much intrigued visiting there as the chapel was closed and another thing it wasn't fascinating as a structure.

This was the first thing we saw there. It was barely used and barely cleaned. I really liked the balusters though, very classic. it was all good just for the daylight the night turns pitch black and is unsafe off course many crimes could take place though.

The other thing which bothered me was this-

Can one spot what's wrong?

Let me brief, it is the edge of the roof, since the roof is gabled so the gutter is attached to the lowest part of the roof which is used to drain water down the pipe to a sewer. This obviously is renovated and how weirdly done!
There is just holes and no pipe attached. literally none, the water will gush down flowing freely through the hole down the floor.

5.1.jpg
Let me be clear, this drawing is mine and stands as an example for the gutter drain I am trying to explain here, the roof isn't exactly similar to the chapel but the circular mark which I specifically marked, shows the section of how the gutter may look like. the size offcourse varies according to the project but after certain point there is little deviation and a hole attached to pipe for water drain flow which clearly isn't present in the chapel here. Hope that gets fixed.

On the other hand some details of chapel's mouldings, columns are nice.

To the extreme right are the picture of staircase which lead to the chapel.

7.jpg
Last, but not the least here is the picture of little close up to the entrance, the porch is covered by truss and a not so matching shed, may be it was installed later during renovation. I am not much aware as there was no guide just few of locals wandering around. But anyways I got a really clear shots due to lack of crowd. It was interesting. But I cannot wait to reach north goad tomorrow and share the gems of Portuguese architecture style churches, markets, colony and more. I and my dad are here for a week hope to cover every aspect of the beautiful city.

I felt as if i am doing a tour of Goa. The problem you have identified in the roof shows your excellent command over architectural issues. Great going.

I have lots of co-workers turned close friends from Goa living in Dubai. They made me want to visit but haven't been able to.

The facade of the church is beautiful. I suppose the original roofing was made of clay tiles? It would have been better to preserve the Portuguese style but I do understand the material, structural and labor costs would be more expensive?

Yea you should definitely visit goa, it's a great place. Yes the façade was good and the original roofing was made of clay. preserving should be done by government but this side of goa is least visited and least famous maybe government had all the focus on north side which is the major tourist attraction.
Thank you @discoveringarni for reading and supporting through your comments always.

My Indian friends have always encouraged me to visit Goa because according to them, it's the beach capital of India. Is this true? On another note, could you please share with us some of the distinct features of the Portuguese architectural style?

I am encouraging you too! Visit goa someday soon, you'll have lots of fun. Anyways, I shall be visiting more renowned architectural structures of Portuguese architecture here, so shall compose a post regarding them all highlighting the details of that style as well.
Thanks for the comment and support @storiesoferne

I agree that the gutter is poorly done. It should have a piping line down the drain or a reservoir. By the way, the photos are greats.

Hey @juecoree. Exactly! and this should be maintained considering it being a structure of historic importance.
