NocoDB: ✨ The Free and Open Source Airtable Alternative ✨

Open source community has been putting out great software that are very usable these days unlike the clunky consumer unfriendly software we got in the early days. This is a change that I very much welcome. My main interest is in open source software that can make life more private and secure against increasing encroachments of governments and their crony corporations that are mining for data and clearly violating the Non Aggression Principle in many ways.

When I do find a great piece of software or service, I like to share them around so that the ones who will find them useful will benefit from that. I especially like to do this on blockchains like BLURT and HIVE where developers are building great things that can change billions of lives for the better.

Most internet businesses equip themselves with either spreadsheet or a database to solve their business needs. Spreadsheets are used by a Billion+ humans collaboratively every single day. However, we are way off working at similar speeds on databases which are way more powerful tools when it comes to computing. Attempts to solve this with SaaS offerings has meant horrible access controls, vendor lockin, data lockin, abrupt price changes & most importantly a glass ceiling on what's possible in future.

Our mission is to provide the most powerful no-code interface for databases which is open source to every single internet business in the world. This would not only democratise access to a powerful computing tool but also bring forth a billion+ people who will have radical tinkering-and-building abilities on internet.

I love what they are trying to accomplish. I have not personally used Airtable myself. So I don't know how to properly compare NocoDB as an alternative. I will leave that task to the experts on BLURT/HIVE.

Features

License

NocoDB is a software under GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 that can turn any MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, SQLite & MariaDB into a smart-spreadsheet.

I also hear that mobile apps are coming soon. You can visit the official website https://www.nocodb.com for more information. Don't expect it to be a complete replacement for Airtable. Consider NocoDB as a tool for small scale user/projects/startups :-)
