My Biggest Pet Peeve: Slow Internet
There are a lot of things that get on my nerves, but if I had to pick the most frustrating one, it would definitely be slow internet. I don’t think there’s anything that annoys me more than trying to get something done online, only for my network to start misbehaving.
We live in a world where almost everything depends on the internet. From social media to online work, research, communication, and even entertainment, the internet has become a huge part of our daily lives. But when you’re stuck with a slow network, everything just becomes frustrating. Imagine trying to watch a simple video, and instead of enjoying it, you’re staring at a buffering symbol for minutes. Or trying to load a picture, and it refuses to appear no matter how long you wait. That’s the kind of thing that can make someone lose their mind.
The worst part? This happens a lot in Nigeria. One moment, your internet is working fine, and the next, it’s crawling like a snail. Sometimes, I try to refresh a page over and over again, hoping it will load, but nothing changes. The thing is, when the internet is slow, it’s not just about being unable to browse; it affects everything. You can’t check your messages, you can’t upload pictures, you can’t even search for basic information. It’s like being cut off from the world, and I absolutely hate that feeling.
What makes it even worse for me is how it affects my productivity. There have been so many times when I wanted to post on Hive, but because of poor network, I had to postpone it. Imagine typing a whole post, editing it, adding pictures, and then when you’re about to publish it, your network decides to act up. It just kills the whole vibe. I’ve had moments where I felt like smashing my phone out of frustration because I couldn’t get my post to go through. And let’s not even talk about trying to watch a YouTube video or download something important—if the internet is slow, forget it.
Sometimes, I ask myself why this issue is still a thing in 2025. With all the advancements in technology, why are we still struggling with bad networks? You would think that by now, internet providers would have figured out how to give us stable and reliable service, but no. Instead, we are still here, dealing with “E” network signals and waiting endlessly for pages to load. And the funny thing is, it doesn’t matter how much data you buy—if the network decides to be slow, there’s nothing you can do about it.
I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. I’m sure everyone has experienced that moment of frustration when you just want to throw your phone against the wall because the internet is acting up. It’s even worse when you’re in a hurry. Maybe you’re trying to send an important message, book a ride, or check something quickly, and the internet just refuses to cooperate. At that point, you start wondering if your village people are involved.
Honestly, I just wish there was a way to permanently fix this issue. Having a fast and stable internet connection should not be a luxury—it should be something everyone can enjoy without stress. But until that day comes, I guess we just have to keep refreshing pages, turning our data off and on, and hoping for the best.
That’s an interesting pet peeve that I never saw coming. Anyway I’m sure everyone hates this too because I do too. Have you ever smashed your phone because of bad internet?
Not all. But just attempted to out of frustration.
I have though
That's actually crazy. Was it accidentally??
Very intentional
Why would do such a thing. You must have regretted your actions.
