Radiation imperceptible to our eyes/ useful tools applied in the technology field_V

Greetings again my dear friends of this prestigious platform especially to all members of the @Project-hope community, as usual we will continue to observe our fascinating environment with the firm purpose of highlighting the enormous and valuable task of the nexus between science-technology, and thus, continue to affirm the conceptual aspect that we have demonstrated so far, that is, that technology is nothing more than applied science.

All our evolution is undoubtedly linked or has its roots in each of the aspects or knowledge that we have extracted from our very complex but wonderful universe, this we have been demonstrating throughout the previous articles linked to important technological applications, designed or manufactured by man such as the different machines, tools or electronic devices, and we know that our environment is full of them.

One of the most influential phenomena for all of us is light, light is the reference point of our essential electromagnetic spectrum, where we have found other radiations imperceptible to our visual sense such as ultraviolet rays, infrared rays, microwaves, x-rays, gamma rays, and all of them are very useful in various activities of mankind.

In this opportunity we will relate to the radio waves and the same are the radiations of lower energy capacity of the electromagnetic spectrum and thus are those that have greater wavelength, remember that to determine the energy quantity of a particular electromagnetic radiation we must express that it is inversely proportional to their respective wavelength, so it is that the longer the wavelength less will be its ability to possess energy.

This type of radiation is also imperceptible to our visual capacity in this case because it has less energy than the fraction of light visible to our eyes, and it also belongs to the family of non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation when it comes into contact with the matter with which it interacts.

As for its technological application we can say that this type of radiation is very effective when transporting any type of information, and also provides the technological field with great advantages, for example, in order to transmit information required these radiations do not require a material or physical means to do so, and even these manage to propagate even in a vacuum, another important feature to take into account is that being an electromagnetic radiation travels at the speed of our visible light which is approximately 300,000 km / h, extraordinary aspect since hardly any obstacle would be able to slow it down.

This undoubtedly gave way to the generation of historic and essential devices which we have called radio and television, and I believe that all of us have used one of these devices and in this way we make use of this type of electromagnetic radiation imperceptible to our eyes, but very useful when transporting any type of information by means of different types of electronic devices.

The radio quickly became an essential technological application because through it is possible to convert our voice into electromagnetic waves, and after this conversion they are sent from a transmitting antenna to propagate to another receiving antenna, and thus these waves are transformed back into sound which originated from the initial voice, similarly happens with the television signal although these could be transmitted by waves of shorter wavelength, this type of television signal is also possible to transmit them through cable networks.

This type of transmission either radio or television could be transmitted in two ways, one directly, that is, from transmitting antenna to receiving antenna, as for the other way to follow would be through a reflection of these waves with the ionosphere and then reach the receiving antenna, these paths can be seen below in the following image or figure 1.

Figure 1. Two forms of transmission of radio waves

Figure_1.JPG

In the previous figure we can see that in certain occasions the transmission of these waves could be blocked by the curvature of the earth, in this case path 2 will be applied, that is to say, the reflection with the ionosphere.

It is important to relate to the spectral fraction of this type of electromagnetic radiation as we can see in figure 2 below.

Figure 2. Radio wave spectrum

Figure_2.JPG

In this way we visualize the place of this type of radio waves in our electromagnetic spectrum and as you observed it is on the right end of the spectrum, and as we have expressed the radiations to the right of our referential spectral fraction, the visible light, are of longer wavelength, and therefore, of lower energy, therefore, being on the right end is the lowest energy of all these electromagnetic radiations.

Figure_3.JPG

In a next installment we will be deepening in what means a carrier and modulated wave, in addition we will analyze in a general way the methods of modulation as by amplitude (AM) as by frequency (FM), technology very implemented at the moment in the transmission of any type of information from a certain place of the planet towards another one.

Until another opportunity my dear friends, I hope to count on your valuable contributions and to be able to complement the subject raised in this opportunity related to the radio waves and its great utility as a technological application.

A question within those radio waves, we can also consider those of cell phones, excuse my ignorance, but as somehow within my little knowledge I consider it that way, I know I can be totally wrong.

Greetings dear friend @lanzjoseg.

Of the electromagnetic radiations those implemented for the transmission of information either by electronic devices such as radio, television and cellular are used both microwaves and radio waves, so you are right.

As always thank you for the support provided and for your great contributions, success.

Hi @valchiz.

Imperceptible radiations are of great use in our lives and among them undoubtedly are radio waves due to their great influence on electronic devices such as radio, television and cell phones.

Thanks for commenting. Regards.
