How cloud computing is affecting its adoption in different companies?

Cloud computing is defined as computing, processing, storing data of a client machine on virtual servers which is available over cloud of networks. There is no physical existence of virtual servers, rather they move around, can be scaled up or down and can fly like a cloud without affecting the end user.

Cloud computing operating environment is divided into two, the front end and the back end. They connect to each other through a network usually an internet. At the front end, there is usually user machine which has interface software like web browser. At the back end, there is cloud which comprises of various computers, data centers and data storage systems etc.

There are various applications of cloud computing. In France, Volkswagen, combined the data of their customers with vehicle data and qualitative notes written by the technicians in cloud at their service centers. In this way, the company is able to notify the specific drivers about the upcoming maintenance schedules.

IBM has started the initiative of smarter planet for 2020 on the internet cloud which is connected with other vehicles, infrastructure, smart phones and other business sources. The vehicles which are connected with cloud can enhance the driver experience in many ways like real time access to different driving conditions and emergency situations and real time diagnostics of vehicle embedded system and automatic update of the software. Thus it helps to save the cost because there will be less hardware because most of the work load is outsourced to remote server.

There are many advantages of cloud computing. On the front end, the hardware requirements can be minimized as data is accessed from cloud anywhere. With the help of server virtualization, the multiple virtual servers can be run in a single machine. It is now possible to move the server from one machine to another and therefore load sharing is enabled and it leads to efficient use of datacentres. It is also possible to duplicate the virtual server which is running a single task on more than one machine.

In large organizations, there is no need to purchase individual licenses for the employees, instead they need to pay metered fee to cloud providing company which hosts the required software. With the help of cloud, it is possible to update, diagnose and repair on the cloud rather than individual machines. It is now much easier to backup and restore the important documents, then to store on a physical device. Most of the cloud providers are competing between them for recovering data.

However, there are also certain disadvantages. Because data are stored remotely, privacy and security is the main concern. Advanced level of encryption techniques and users authentications are required to secure the information from data theft. As nothing is safe on internet, the data on the cloud is also prone to external attacks.

In different industries, the cloud computing will serve as effective way for product development, analysis in virtual environment, sharing ideas and incorporation of various operating system.

The cloud computing has impacted many companies especially in IT department. It appeared during the past few years and it allowed the companies to outsource data, electronically send folders and other applications through virtual platforms with the help of servers that are connected between each other and it can be accessed anywhere and anytime. The only requirement is the internet connection. The cloud gives almost unlimited space for data storage.
