The Amazon Fire Phone that Failed

It is no doubt that most large corporation have one thing in common and that is diversification. Microsoft started as a software company and expanded into other tech aspect like service and mobile phone (the mobile phone was a big failure). Google from a search engine now owns YouTube which competes with other video platforms, android the operating system, and are into service provision. Virgin started as a record but soon expanded into airline and many other things, Tencent being a video game company has diversified into the software tech, social media, and other forms of investment. In this same way has Amazon also diversified from being an online commerce service for books, DVDs, and CDs but soon it expanded, and Kindle was born. In this post, I will be talking about one of Amazons’ diversification that went wrong.

The tech giant is a trillion-dollar company which is into ecommerce, web service, media streaming (prime video), and into video gaming (Twitch). If we clearly remember that since amazon was initially a place purchase books online, they decided to create an online means to read the book and this gave birth to Kindle (an electronic reader) in 2007. Did you ever hear of the Amazon fire Phone? It is the Amazons phone which looked like a normal android device but ran a different operating system not that of Google. It uses the Fire operating system owned by Amazon which did not have the google play store. The phone was a unique phone with unique features having 3D visions and wallpapers, 5 cameras but one issue the phone had was applications for the phone.

The phone was developed solely by the brain of Jeff Bezos, so it could be called the Bezos Phone. The phone was able to identify users looking position thanks to the cameras around it. The phone did not have useful applications for the phone since Google play store and Apple store already had what almost everyone wanted. Amazon wanted to become brand that people could not do without and creating wasn’t a bad idea but having an operating system with no software means people would not have any use for the phone.
