Coronavirus and border closure: what science says about it

avatar

Border closure was probably the central and most discussed issue since the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), because according to intuitive interpretations, governments on a global scale considered border closure as the most expeditious action to stop the exponential contagions that were beginning to be recorded at that time.

However, after the collective closure of land and area borders, the medical community, represented by scientific organizations, put forward their point of view and expressed that the closure of borders would have serious consequences that would aggravate the pandemic.

Hence, more than a year after the collective closure of the land and area borders, and having already gathered sufficient information through experimental studies, the scientific community has come to the conclusion that closing the borders was a serious mistake.

According to experimental approaches, the restrictions of land borders and areas managed to slow down the onset of the pandemic to a very low percentage, so that they only delayed the rise of the peak of contagion, which is why it is inferred that these closures have generated more harm than good.

Hi @lupafilotaxia.

I think that as time goes by we will realize that many of the measures taken at the beginning of the pandemic will end up resulting in serious mistakes taken, just as it is already considered a serious mistake the closing of borders, we must assume these mistakes as something normal, since humanity was completely unaware of how measures should be taken for this unknown virus at the time of opening of the pandemic.

Greetings and thank you for your contribution.

Greetings dear professor @carlos84, I agree with you, the problem is that governments took measures lightly without paying attention to the indications of international health institutions. Thank you for your appreciation.

Good article friend, it seems that closing the borders is not a sustainable strategy, there are countries where the virus resurfaces or the peak increases.

Hi @cryptoxicate, the closure of land and air borders prevented that favorable scenarios could be created at the immune level, even if this is not said openly is what indeed happens.

Greetings, thanks for leaving your appreciation.

Hmm, quite confusing a bit. I will go on to read more about this.

Hi @valchiz, it is certainly a confusing issue and more if you consider that at the beginning it was believed that the closure would decrease the infections and this was not the case, on the contrary the highest peaks were generated, because before the closure the virus was already in most countries.

Greetings, thanks for leaving your appreciation.

Hello, greetings @lupafilotaxia , I personally think that the measures were the correct ones of the closing of the borders ,said it for the case of Venezuela, since otherwise our borders are with Colombia and Brazil and the numbers speak for themselves , of not closing when they did we would be in worse circumstances than we have today, but I respect other opinions very much.

Greetings Professor @dgalan

It is acceptable your point of view, indeed under that premise the world leaders by intuition opted to close the border, now this action prevented the creation of immunity to the virus, and thus the virus became more aggressive.

Greetings, thanks for leaving your appreciation.

There are a few countries and states within some countries that closed borders and have largely returned to pre covid life, avoiding many deaths. Examples are Australia, New Zealand, and Taiwan. I think it really comes back to border closures are effective if they are done early and other measures are taken to contain any small outbreaks that emerge within borders. Border closures aee ineffective if done too late

I don't think closing/opening borders is driven by logic. There is fear in masses, people want politics to act, politics want to do things their electorate will approve. I just hope all countries will open borders for vaccinated people at least.

Hello friend @lupafilotaxia, Covid 19 is a very worrying situation globally.
The new waves of contagions with the unfortunate consequences of human losses have the population on alert.
Opinions on actions and decision making are still varied, it is complex and with a lot of uncertainty.
Thank you for approaching this important and topical subject.
Best regards

Blessed day, in my opinion I believe that the countries acted in the best way they considered since no one was prepared for a pandemic of such magnitude, unfortunately the results of the measures taken are now reflected.
