Extreme luxury could be boring: My opinion on emerging technologies.

Previous inhabitants of our planet will be astonished by what the world they left behind has become. The 21st century has given birth to the most sophisticated and yes, shinny inventions. The world has grown rapidly and beyond the imaginations of the majority. Not sure if anyone imagined a world like ours, anyone who did will surely have a good career in gambling…just kidding anyways, but that’s no where far from a fact though.

Majority of our even technology are back by empirical study of past and crude inventions and modifying them to perform better and also appear aesthetically enticing, something the crude technologies didn’t really offer, but as a matter of fact, they were just a stage in the technological evolution, just like we are.

Automation technologies are growing so fast and machines are made to work independent of constant controls. Automation technologies are a beauty and a product of extreme masterpiece. Developing responsive devices and machines which are capable of operating without constant external control or intervention should really go into the book of record as one of the wonders of our generation. But it’s only a wonder when it is unexplainable.

Despite the fact that automation technologies have made a huge progress, they are still an emerging concept as it is poised to go much further and its abilities seems infinitive. From our automatic cloth washers to our cryptocurrency and forex trading bots, automation technology have penetrated every sphere of our lives, in every nook and crannies of our environment, these machines and their impact could be seen or at least felt…or heard of(if you’re living at the back of the world…lol).

The studies leading to these inventions are empirical, well documented and flexible to allow further development, this itself is a masterpiece approach. Studies in this area have enabled an extensive research into the discipline of automation and more breakthroughs are being made with every day that passes by, machines are being built to not only work without controls but to simulate human level perfection and to even perform better than humans in simultaneous and spontaneous activities.

The Artificial intelligence field of study is an ambitious move to make machines more humans and more productive than humans. Artificial intelligence has developed over the years in both efficiency and dependability and has gained application in many aspects of our lives, ensuring increased output in these areas where it has been applied, however the use of artificial intelligence oriented gadgets are seriously regulated, this limits their application, but nevertheless, it is in use in many fields.

To completely imitate the human ability is not as easy as it seems, as this involves encoding the machine/ bot with several abilities such as perception, learning, language, knowledge and reasoning, movement and manipulation through the means of computer science and mathematics, however, with precise description of some human behavior, the scope of artificial intelligence has been simplified but only to a little extent as even with a precise description, these qualities are hard to interpret into a language which can be understood by the machine, certain human qualities such as emotions are almost impossible to be encoded in a machine language, unlike perception and movement which can be readily programmed using sensors and mechanical technologies respectively. But this field is outgrowing these restrictions and evolving into a discipline of ‘all possibilities’.

Let's help you with the laundry! Source

However, majority of these technologies are centered towards making life a lot easier. The automated washing machines do the laundries while you keep your hands dry, the automatic gear selector changes your gear to suit the current topography, the driver hence has fewer duties to perform as regards controlling the vehicle in motion; these are great additions to human luxury, technologies of this are very important utilities. Emerging technologies are however going a mile more to further automate these processes and shift even more duties to the machines.

The chat bot just replied your message…you just got a perfect reply to your message without another human being at the other end of the computer; breathtaking!, you’d want/ wish for more of this, for sure you’re already getting tired of the slow customer service agents who previously attend to you via the messaging hotlines, machines are becoming more humans and we are walking towards a world of machines, but this could be really toxic.

Extreme luxury could not only be boring but toxic too, even though artificial intelligence and automation provides us with more accuracy, speed, safety and comfortability, delegating some activities to machines would still expose humans to a new set of dangers which may be even more severe than that encountered in a human-based control system. Continued researches and discoveries in the artificial intelligence discipline will eventually reduce the role which humans has to play in the concerned field as these machines are always built to out- smart humans, this would remove the role played by emotions and decreased use of the human brain reduces it’s capabilities, this is in congruence with Jean Larmack’s law of use and disuse, hence while we make machines more efficient, we render humans less-efficient and decrease their role in the ecosystem, artificial intelligence is awesome I must say, but in essence, it should be geared towards the performance of humanly impossible tasks and reducing the unnecessary stress for workers, precisely, artificial intelligence should be geared more towards ergonomics and creating a stress-free working environment for humans.

The idea of singularity could be scary, but the fact that these technologies could create some good level of boredom is still an important disadvantage which could emerge. Maybe it’s personal anyways but I think it is a lot of fun driving your vehicles by yourself and replying to your messages by yourself than having an automated entity do them for you, many might argue that these automation are optional and one may choose not to use them if they wish to avoid these issues that may surface, this may be the reality to an extent, but if some of these technologies could become our normal way of life, then there’s every possibility of the extremely developed ones becoming our way of life too and this might not only be toxic, but boring as well.

The fact is that machines are truly gradually taking over. I however fear that we do not create a planet in which machines will one day take on the greed in humans, and use it against us, making our planet not conducive for us man anymore. We should also be careful not to place our existence on them.

certain human qualities such as emotions are almost impossible to be encoded in a machine language

That is a fact, but "almost impossible" does not mean impossible. That little possibility might become the reality, as science keeps getting broader by the day.

It is actually becoming a reality, machines are being encoded with certain emotional features of humans.

That's it!
Soon the rate of unemployment worldwide will explode, and funds will be going to the same set of people - the tech giants, and those who can afford to use the technology for their businesses.

I agree with you, plus there is another point to mention, yes, they make our lives easier, but we really want an easier life? Many times having an easier and quieter life can be an art form for many. Depression can go hand in hand with something like this, sometimes we need that dose of stress in our life to feel that we are alive. If that doesn't happen, there may come a time when we say, What am I alive for? Am I useless? These are realities that need to be taken into account.

True words! This is evidenced in the increasing rate of depression amongst the financially stable who are thought to be okay with life.

Yes, technology made us more lazy as a result spikes are observed in physical and mental heatlh issues. Very nice and thought provoking article.

If we push too far on that field, the human species will stop to evolve and will disappear. We need to have a purpose and automate everything it is not the solution.
