Application of Geosteering technology in the drilling of intelligent wells in which it is possible to increase the productivity of oil wells by 30%

There are multiple technologies in the drilling of intelligent wells that help to improve the production of oil wells, for this occasion I want to talk to you about Geosteering technology.

There are two variables that are associated and that in the drilling and construction of an oil well benefit from this technology, these two variables are

  • Increase in well production.
  • Reduction in the time of drilling and construction of wells.

In the second variable this advantage is extrapolated to favorable economic considerations, since reducing drilling times reduces the estimated costs for drilling, if we take into account that a drilling with conventional technology should take longer.

Geosteerin technology allows us to obtain real-time information from the reservoir while we are drilling the well, this data being collected by this technology includes

  • Image studies.
  • Two and three dimensional projections of the zone around the producing reservoir.

All this is possible by continuously adjusting the location of the drill head over the oil well.

In the oil industry, any technology that provides information of the reservoir and the subsoil while drilling is very important, since this allows real time actions to be taken that benefit the productivity of the reservoir.

In the previous image we can appreciate a generalized panorama of how it is possible to have a wide and generalized information of the deposit while it is being drilled, however for all of you can have a wide vision of this technology I want to present next a video that is not of my authorship and that exemplifies the process of transmission of data of the deposit and of the formations that are crossed as it is being drilled:

One of the many benefits of this intelligent drilling technology is that it has a software that allows an integral base that supports all the engineering in charge of drilling and building a well in a directional and/or horizontal way, having as a premise the optimal positioning of the well within the objective horizon, that is, always maintaining a margin of directionality that does not allow to leave the objective of the producing reservoir.

As the tool that includes this technology is close to the drill bit, we must bear in mind that while drilling in real time, benefits can be obtained such as knowing the stratigraphic position of the well at the time it is being drilled.

Everything that can be known in real time in the drilling and construction of a well using this technology allows making decisions that are also in real time, but that in turn will allow in the future when the well starts to produce an increase of 30% of its capacity compared to conventional techniques in well drilling.

Interesting technology friend @carlos84. Without a doubt, any technology that provides real-time information during the drilling of a well is a very important aid, but the fact that immediate actions can be taken by adjusting the location of the drill head definitely makes it a very important tool in this type of activity.
