Struggle of dark and bright matters - LMAC Stem Special [EN | DE]

Struggle of dark and bright matters

EnglishLanguage.png

Hello Hivians,

This week LMAC hosts a highly interesting special round for which we have partnered with the Stem community. The topic this time is therefore of course scientific in nature. It is about so-called "Dark Matter", to which we want to create collages in this round.
As different as science and art are, be it in their approaches in solving problems or in their view of reality, the fusion of the both is actually not that unusual. Art has helped science out many times by depicting things that have not yet been discovered or that cannot be photographed. What we often can see as illustrations in our favorite science magazines and TV documentaries, besides interesting texts of eager scientists, comes from the hands of artists.

I also wanted to take this opportunity by trying to be that kind of science artist and decided to participate in this round, of course, as always, out of competition.

Hallo Hivianer,

About the collage

To be admitted, at first, I didn't know how I could depict something that can't be seen at all. The term "dark matter", says only that this (presumed) form of matter is just not visible.
However, this round is fortunately also about the fusion between the science AND art.
I reflected on this, I saw this task suddenly in a completely different light.
Armed with the freedom that art allows us, I began to think about how to symbolize the theme of the contest in a way that seemed quite coherent to me.
There is only a fine line between fight and dance, which sometimes even blurs almost completely. Exactly this kind of spirited dance was what I thought to recognize during my research on the subject of "Dark Matter" versus "Bright Matter".
Interaction of both types of matter mainly take place via gravity, while other forms of interaction, as it is known to us between representatives of known matter, are rather minimal between the two different types. In my imagination this appeared to me to be like a tango of a couple of lovers struggling with each other, who are always seeking the bond, passionately circling around each other, but never really find together. A danced love drama, in a way.

Of course, it looked extremely fantastic in my imagination. And so I immediately wrestled with GIMP for a while, only to realize that my imagination is simply much more fantastic than my skills in GIMP.
I really hope one can see the intention behind my collage a bit. I like to show it to you, out of pure sportsmanship.

What is LMAC?

LMAC is a great community for artists of all skill levels. The name of the community is an abbreviation and stands for "Let's make a collage".
Just take a look. Even if you think you are not an artist, LMAC will probably prove you wrong.

Current round: LMAC Stem Special.

Are you a good photographer and would like to contribute some nice good quality photos in exchange for good votes and tribute?
We are currently building our own photo/image library that we can use as a image source for our collages, but also every Hiver beyond LMAC is very welcome to use the images in it.

Was ist LMAC?

Schau einfach mal rein.

Aktuelle Runde: LMAC Stem Spezial-Runde.

There is only a fine line between fight and dance

Did you know that when breakers (hip hop/break dancers) compete they call the contest a battle? Interesting that you see that also. My daughter was a professional breaker (amazing, huh?) so that line struck me in your blog.

It's a great collage. Captures the tension in the universe, between dark matter and matter, between lovers and of course between dancers.

the fusion of the both is actually not that unusual

Art and science are about vision. I think of some of the great science fiction writers (H. G. for example) who anticipated much of the science that would come in the next century.

The sparks where dancers hands make contact are particularly effective. Brilliant collage and explanation.

Yes, I once watched a movie about this kind of dance battles. Pretty impressive, indeed!
Respect to your daughter, when I tried to spin on my back, it didn't feel so creative :-D
It must take a lot of disciplined training to perform such great moves.
Dance is such a wonderful choreographic medium. Widely underrated!

Thank you so much for your kind words. I truly appreciate each and every one of your visits to my blog. :-)
