Why Do Dogs Chase Frisbees? A Freestyle Collage for LMAC
LMAC is technically on vacation, but not all of us have gone away! Members of the community are still making collages, freestyle. They are still contributing to the image gallery, LIL. And so, I am here today with my own truly freestyle collage.
It's easy to explain the inspiration for this: @quantumg! There can be no more sincere fan of dogs than @quantumg, and no one more skilled at crafting images for LIL than @quantumg. If you look at my collage you will see three robotic figures and a space ship. All of these were contributed by @quantumg. Better yet, these are all his original creations.

As you look at the collage you will see dogs, first of all, many dogs. Each dog image was borrowed from the LMAC Gallery, as were the wonderful surreal-looking plants. The fiery cloud background for the collage was taken from a template photo provided by @shaka some weeks ago. Each of my sources is credited, with many thanks, below.
But, before I get there, let me discuss for a bit the playful behavior of the frisbee-chasing dogs in my collage. It's a fact: dogs love to chase things. Why?
According to an article published by the site, Michelson Found Animals, dogs chase things because of a prey chase drive. The article states: "The movement of the 'prey' triggers the dog to chase, similar to a reflex, and is a part of normal dog behavior".
Some breeds of dogs are more likely to chase than others. The American Kennel Club states that sighthounds are among the breeds most likely to chase. That's because for thousands of years these dogs have been bred to hunt prey. Included in sighthound breeds are Whippets, Greyhounds, Scottish Deerhounds, Afghan Hounds and Salukis.

You'll notice all these dogs are thin and are often used for for racing, because they are fast runners. "...these breeds have been called 'windhounds' for good reason: They needed to be fast enough to overtake very fleet-footed game, such as hare, deer, and even wolf". (Quote from the AKC article: The Skinny on Sighthounds).
Although chasing is an expression of the predator instinct, it is just one part of the prey drive. According to Paws Chicago, the prey instinct has five stages: "...the search, the stalk, the chase, the catch and the kill." Obviously, when adopting a dog it would be good to understand the level of prey instinct in that breed, and to be prepared to train the dog accordingly.

Not all dogs have prey drive in equal measure. Some breeds that have strong prey drive are (from Paws Chicago): Afghan Hounds, Alaskan Malamutes, Australian Cattle Dogs, Basenjis, Beagles, Bullmastiffs, Doberman Pinschers, Jack Russell Terriers, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Samoyeds, Shiba Inus, Siberian Huskies, Weimaraners, Whippets, and Yorkshire Terriers.
Some breeds that have low prey instinct (from Pet Helpful): Maltese, Japanese Chin, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Golden Retriever and Old English Sheepdog.

A canine collage 🐶🤭, I liked it, especially that robot dog that I find adorable🤭. I also like dogs I had many in my childhood, the one I remember the most was a small terrier, I called him Wishbone as a character from a tv series many years ago. My little dog was very very naughty hehehehe, I remember one Christmas he broke our Christmas tree.
By the way I had also wondered why dogs like to chase things so much?🤔. I thought it was interesting to know. I can see that chasing, capturing and destroying things in the house is also part of their instincts 😄.

A naughty dog...what a surprise.😆 Many dogs helped me get through childhood🐕. And dogs were probably my children's best friends (certainly their most loyal) when they were growing up.

Yes, dog heaven. I like that. Atos is such a charming dog. You could do a comic strip with him as main character😄. He really has a memorable expression.

Hello friend, excellent explanation behind your collage, dogs generally like to chase things, they have an instinct to run after, some chase cats, in Negrito's case, they chase cats, but cats stop and defend themselves like a beast. Black has climbed the mountain with me, after he goes down, when he sees a motorcycle, he sticks behind to chase it, as if he doesn't get tired. Thank you for your excellent information on the puppies.

More than just a collage, you've put together a fantastic review of various dogs and their behaviors here. From my side I have a small Pinscher, which I could particularly include in a list called: "the most naughty dogs"... He is a remarkably energetic little boy.
By the way, the photo of your pet on the snow... It's cute, I've always wanted to see snow. I suppose that many of us born from the warm side of the planet, we want it.

Nice to see you here! I love making collages and contributing pictures to the LMAC community. It's great fun, even though I am not an artist.
We welcome new people. Check out the community page and get an idea of what we do. We are on vacation now, but people can still contribute photos to our library during the break. Rules for contributing are described here. The most important rule is that the photos have to be your own. Can't borrow them from anywhere else. Once they are contributed they become public domain and free for anyone else to borrow.
People can also make freestyle collages during our vacation. The rules for making a collage are described in this blog by @shaka.
On the 15th of September, our vacation is over and our collage contest begins again. @shaka posts a photo and then we all make collages for it. We are only allowed to use our own art/photos or art that is taken from a whitelisted source. Here is a post that explains the sources we may use.
This may sound like a lot, but it is worth the trouble. Take your time. Look around. If you have any questions, please ask me. I'll try to help.

@agmoore, With my own pictures I can't, since I don't have a telephoto or my own camera, I don't have one, the phone I had was stolen and now I want to recover the phone line and I can't because I need to collect to recover it, I will check @shaka's post to see if I can take a picture of it and create a collage. thanks for taking the time to answer me, I appreciate it.
I don't completely understand your difficulty. Can you not download @shaka's tremplate photo and then borrow images from LIL, Pixabay or Unsplash in order to make a collage? You can also draw on the image. You can do anything you imagine to get the effect you want, as long as the sources you use are from our whitelist (which I linked to in my previous comment). Let me know if I can help. Sounds like you have a challenge there. I am sorry.
