I didn't know where to start my walk today; I literally wasn't looking for anything specific, just exercising and looking for material for a post. After several doubts, I finally accepted that today's trail would begin at "Monsanto Park" in the heart of Lisbon, a beautiful place with a variety of species in spring. All I would do today was walk.👩🏻‍🦯🙇🏻‍♀️

You're probably wondering... How can there be a forest in the middle of the city? Well, believe it or not, Monsanto is a small nature reserve that was specifically created to preserve nature amidst the asphalt. It also allows people to interact with and learn about various types of forests, because it's actually a mixed forest, not native to the area. Here you'll find everything from pine trees to cork oaks.🏞️🏔️
Seguramente diras...

This park was built in the 20th century; it's not as old as some others, but I can tell you it's quite large, with almost a thousand hectares. I think I made a post once where I walked all of it, haha. I remember walking for about four hours. But what does the park have to do with a travel community? Actually, it does, and quite a lot, because:📍🌏

What to do in Monsanto as a tourist?🙇🏻‍♀️ - Que hacer en Monsanto como turista??🏃🏻‍♂️‍➡️🏋🏻‍♀️🚴🏻🚵🏻‍♀️

  • "Hiking in Monsanto: Monsanto Park has a wide network of paths to explore its natural beauty. There are many routes with different difficulty levels, from short and easy walks to longer and more challenging hikes.
  • Cycling and MTB: Monsanto is an ideal space for cycling and mountain biking (MTB), with several bike paths running through the park. Additionally, there is a specific mountain biking track.
  • Picnic areas: The Monsanto Forest Park has several picnic areas equipped with tables and benches, where you can enjoy an outdoor meal surrounded by nature. Take a look at our articles Where to eat in Lisbon and Shopping in Lisbon if you need ideas to fill your "basket."
  • Playgrounds: If you are traveling to Lisbon with small children, Monsanto Park is the perfect place to give them a break from so much sightseeing; in addition to the picnic areas, there are several parks with swings where they can burn off energy (even if they never run out) in a natural setting.
  • Viewpoints in Monsanto Park: The park houses several viewpoints that offer great views of Lisbon and its surroundings, such as the Montes Claros Viewpoint and our favorite, the Monsanto Panoramic Viewpoint, located in the abandoned building of an old restaurant.

I really wanted to make the most of the experience because further on nature is not the same; the mountain peaks in the Lisbon area are desert-like, and we'll barely find any shrubs and the occasional pine tree. Here, everywhere you look there are bugs waiting for your photographs.🙇🏻‍♀️📍

This is the city with the aqueduct, and a Roman road passed through here in the 2nd century AD. It is even believed that there may be some hot springs where the Romans could stop and rest on long journeys, but the ruins have not yet been discovered; they could even be under a house.🙇🏻‍♀️🌏🌳

It was funny passing through this village because it's not on the map, haha. It only has a sign, but it doesn't appear on Google Maps. And there you have a reference point for how isolated certain places in Portugal can be.🚵🏻‍♀️🏞️

If you're interested in learning more about the village, and we've already flown the drone here, you can search my blog for the name and explore. The GPS led me here, and I can compare the landscape in summer and spring, the two seasons I visited.🏞️🌏
