RE: Is Free Will An Illusion?

You're talking about muscle memory in regards to playing music, which is just a motor task committed to memory through repetition.

Yes we have no choice in regards to say keeping our heart pumping or our hair and fingernails growing. But that is to do with survival pure and simple.

Free will is about choosing an action or a path to take. We are influenced by things such as a dopamine hit, and yes in addicts we see this free will curtailed.

But I would definitely say that we as a species have free will. I'd love to have the excuse of blaming fate or God for my preordained actions but sadly I don't think we have a loop hole here.

Could you elaborate a bit about what you meant by that?

People have a choice of how and what they think and therefore how they act. This is free will.

This can be controlled or curtailed by many factors but a man's ability to think, dream and how he reacts make up free will.

There is not enough research to claim that free will doesn't exist. But some research like the one by Libet suggests that there might be more to our actions than us simply wanting to do it.

There is an unconscious factor to any conscious choice or action that we make, we just don't know which part dominates the other.
