It’s the talent, not the tech.

While window shopping recently I came across a electronic pen device I could use with my iPad Pro. The store was asking AU$125 for it and I thought it was a reasonable price for what it was.

I wouldn’t mind getting it to create art and do other things with it, but I also know that just like the keyboard I bought recently, there’s a good chance that it will be used constantly for 24 hours and then left to gather dust soon after. I didn’t buy it.

How many of us have things like that in our homes?

Another thought that came to mind was that it’s the talent not the tech that makes a piece of art great. There are artists, writers, photographers, etc. here that use all sort of different tools when uploading content, but it’s the finished product that gets the upvote.

It’s the effort that gets rewarded, not necessarily the technology that allowed the artist to create.

Tech Envy

Sometimes focusing on the technology can be a distraction from getting the actual work done. I haven’t posted here for over two weeks and it had nothing to do with technology. It was because I allowed a mixture of apathy and perfectionism to creep in. Too many options rather than keeping it simple and just start posting with what I had and trusting the community.

Sometimes some of the most creative photos are made with just a puddle, lighting and camera angles!

Technology definitely has it’s place, and I couldn’t do what I do without it. The idea is to not let it steal your focus or in some ways, get in the way.

Community

I have wanted to contribute to the Food Fight Friday competition for the last few weeks but felt that what I was producing wasn’t good enough because I can’t sit down at a restaurant table (making photography a challenge) and I don’t think my cooking skills are up to scratch. But I know that’s not really true.

Well, I doubt that I am going to be competing against the gourmet chefs on here anytime soon, (chuckle) but I contribute because it’s fun for me to do so.

When you’re part of a community, people like you to check-in occasionally.
My focus was mainly with showing different food options, especially those found exclusively locally. Or with local events or whatever else is going on in my life.

Creating Art

Art comes initially from the mind, secondly from the skill set and lastly from the tools. I know graphic artists who use graphic tablets and pads to create brilliant works, but even they will resort back to pencil and paper for the organic feel of things and the ease at which they can see their rough sketches strewn around them on sheets of paper.

While tech has it’s place, artists know how to draw. Or rather, not just draw but how to place different elements on the page, how the eye reads those elements, how colours clash or contrast each other, etc. Photographers know how to use lighting and all the little features on their cameras.
Novel writers know about story structure.

To get good at something, you have to work on it every day.
And with that I have to get this posted.

If you’re creative what is your preferred medium?

Welcome back. Glad you decided to just write anyway. You're so right, part of creativeness is using what you have on hand. You may envy and dream of what you could achieve with purpose made tools, but working from the other end you can imagine what can be achieved with what's already available to you.

Thank you. Sometimes it’s a matter of removing all of the distractions and sitting down and just doing it.

It is just the way we are as humans ( distractions everywhere) but nevertheless we should try to utilize the little we have to create more Original deeds with it. Thanks for sharing this with us.
