Does eating meat has anything to do with snowstorm?

Yes, like the one the United Kingdom Experience; "The Beast from the East". Studies have shown that reducing meat production and consumption possess the potential ability to avert or alter climatic disasters. A bit unrealistic and dramatic, but let us check out the facts and findings below.

FACTS; AMOUNT OF GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSION FROM LIVESTOCK FARMING

Chart Source

Evidence have it that Livestock farming is the result of approximately 14.5% of Global Greenhouse Gas Emission which is surprisingly greater than every form of emission from automobiles and any means of transportation. A recent study from the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy indicates that the five apex Diary and Meat Corporations contributes the highest greenhouse gas emissions more than Exxon Mobil- the Oil Giant Company!

More damaging to the planet than C02 from Cars is Cow emissions, the threat is not only to humans but to climate, forest and wildlife. It poisons Portable water, rivers and creates acidic rains. In 2016, just a tiny fraction (5%) of consumers in Europe stuck to vegetarian diest as advised by the United Nations to live on meat and dairy free meals. This is in contrast with Asian consumers with 19%. Feeding animals that are later consumed as steaks, bacons, meats needs a large amount of crop rich in protein e.g Soy(Necessary in animal feeds which are largely imported) and had caused deforestation in some part of the World where these (GMO- Genetically Modified Soybean) Soya are grown by farmers on extensive large scales just to feed animals overseas. Another study showed that the UK climatic structure is suitable to grow proteinous plants e.g Beans and Peas in Larger quantity for direct human consumption other than feeding it to animals to be killed for food.

COUPLED WITH SOYA IS HEMPSEED

This plants can be cultivated anywhere with no or little applications of pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers and also needs a small percentage of maintenance of land needing little water for cultivation. These protein crops possess a unique ability to absorb Nitrogen from the air and diffuse it into the soil which lessens the usage of non-environmental fertilizers that damages the soil and very expensive the same time.

It lessens Emission and very ideal for farmers practicing a system of crop rotation which sustainably helps reduce using intensive chemical means of farming; another source of pollution. Although, the United Kingdom only portions 16% of cultivated lands to grow these protein crops despite the massive benefit to the climate.

FAVA BEANS

Another protein crop that adds the very needed Nitrogen to farmland and also a source of food to insects that aids pollination process for crops as well as it nutritional benefits which could be an alternative to meat and dairy products. It is highly rich in protein and provides Iron with Fibre, a less expensive source of protein to consumers compared to meat accompanied by several health advantages.

AVERTING MORE BEAST OF THE EAST

It is necessary to campaign for increasing crops rich in protein to be cultivated on arable farmland as an alternative to Livestock farming, coupled with a system of crop rotation that would enable two or more protein crops to be cultivated. European Union Protein crop production is small compared with the amount being consumed on daily basis. Just 2.5% of Soybeans used in EU regions are actually grown there, the rest is imported to feed livestock and human. Over dependent on imported protein crops is bad, a more self-sustaining approach is mandatory to reduce Greenhouse gas emission from Animal farming.

There is a huge environmental benefit from the reduction in the emission of Methane from livestock farms and Carbon emissions(During transportation of these animals) and preservation of Wildlife and forests from Monocultural Farming practices.

Greater use of European-grown plants rich in protein to foster animal feeding is essential and it's key to emphasize that this is not a plea to end Livestock farming but an alternative provision of improved diets without too much dependency on protein derived from meat and dairy products. Eating smart is the way out!
