m33-2hour.jpg

Its been a while since the clouds departed from the North of England but last night the seeing was good, very little clouds and the moon was only 7% and i cant actually remember seeing it, i have changed my rig a litle bit by adding a mini pc to the setup so i can control everything over wifi and stay warm in the house.

The software i currently use is sharpcap to capture my images, for this target i used 240 second exposures, the rig itself is still evolving with a larger guide scope and mono guiding camera added.

The target i chose last night M33 was high in the sky so less atmosphere to cut through for imaging, M33 Triangulum galaxy is 2.73 million light years away and it is the second closest galaxy to use and can be seen with the naked eye in the darkest regions with good seeing, the spiral galaxy arms can be seen on this image nicely and the core of the galaxy is not over exposed.

I have also open up an accout on Telescopius to upload all my images, i really like this site as it is free and also adds plate solving to the images and lots of info can be added. https://telescopius.com/profile/lancastrianastro

That software you’re using is pretty amazing. I know how to use a Cannon DSLR but won’t even begin to pretend I know anything about this way of capturing photos. 😄 It’s very intriguing though.

I’m not sure if you knew there was a community for Cosmology and Sci-fi things but it’s the StemSocial Community. For future reference you can post things like this there.

The OCD Community is for general topic
posts that do not fit in any of the other communities.

Tbh I thought I used stem lol, I sometimes use my canon 1000d on a small star tracker. There is software called backyard eos for canon cams. The software I use is called sharpcap, there is a free version or the paid one for £12 per year. It has loads of great features, my favourite is the polar alignment tool.

Lol!

My nephew would love this. He’s always been into the stars. Thanks for all the detailed tool info!

if you want to get into astrophotography my personal advice would be a small refractor like the 72mm i use and something like a eq3 mount. a dslr will pair with that setup nicely, it is a steep learning curve but one most can master. check out the astrobiscuit youtube channel for some easy to watch videos about astrophotography
