The Supertree Grove and Skywalk

avatar

The other day I posted a video of me looking for the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore. In the end I got there of course, and today I'm going to take you up a 22m high Skywalk at the Gardens by the Bay.

THE GARDENS

Gardens by the Bay itself is pretty massive and have a lot of different attractions. The most famous being the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest which are massive conservatories. I think most people will visit these two attractions to admire the plants inside the world's largest greenhouse and the highest indoor waterfall. Having been to Project Eden in UK a few years ago, I'm not a big fan on conservatories as I prefer natural things to be in their natural environment, that's why I skipped these two main attractions. I choose to go up the Skywalk instead.

Before I went up the Skywalk, I walked around the Gardens by the Bay. I wanted to see the Super Trees and the Marina Bay Sands building at ground level first. The main part of the Gardens I wandered around had a bit too much concrete for my liking. I didn't get to go a bit further out to the other parts, so I don't if there were any grass areas. That would be what I call a proper garden. However, I appreciate that it's not that easy to maintain a proper grass garden in Asia. Other than the lack of grass, the Garden had a lot of greenery, plants and flowers. There were also some sculptures dotted around, but since I had my heart on going up the Skywalk, I didn't really pay much attention to much else.

THE SKYWALK

The Skywalk is 22m high and 128m long walk way connecting two of the 18 Super Trees at the Gardens by the Bay. These Super Trees are 50m tall, so the walkway is around mid height. Its route is a curved shaped, and access is up an elevator from one Super Tree and down another. I did a video of my experience going up the Skywalk which I still need to edit, but here are some teasers that I want to share with you first.

So here's me up on the Skywalk. The view up here is absolutely stunning as it feels like I'm so close to the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. It's also very windy here, as you will see when I share my video.

Here's another view of the iconic building. From this view, you can clearly see the convention-exhibition centre at the foot of the three towers. You'll also notice each tower is like two slabs stuck together in the middle. In my video, you'll see me walking through these structures on the way here.

In these two images below, you can see the entire 128k long Skywalk from both ends. I can tell you now, walking across it was a lot scarier than I expected but the view all around was so worth it.

I'm hoping to get my video ready this weekend so you can see what it really looks like up on the Skywalk. Till then, hope you liked these teasers!

I need to get my wife to get free tics from her office again.
The skywalk should be less crowded nowadays.

There wasn't a lot of people when I went there. Is it less crowded coz it's opened for a while or because of the virus you think?

Should be the virus because there are less tourist with the travel restrictions. Less people are going out but places with free parking like some malls work are getting some bit of business.

Those Super Trees are quite stunning! They do a light show in the evening as well but I didn't hang around for that.

You just reminded me of why I wanted to go to Singapore. All those beautiful structures. Wow. I will put it on my bucket list for next time traveling to Asia.

I think if you're travelling around Asia, Singapore is, amongst other things, a nice place to get some westernised vibe if you're missing home 😁

I'm finally here to read your post. I saw it yesterday but was a crazy day, barely time for anything.
It's nice to see the area from so close but just like you, I was disappointed to learn about so much concrete. Obviously I'm judging everything as a European, where the weather is totally different.
It's a nice place regardless, it shows they care about tourism and make the most of it to get as much income out of it as they can.

Thank you for keeping us informed and I'm looking forward to your video.

Have a nice weekend 😊
