In a fossil 'park' of a marine ecosystem

For those who like snorkeling, the view of coral reefs below sea level is something that is familiar. But those are modern reefs. For ancient coral reefs, or coral fossils, here (where I live) I often see them in hilly areas near the waterfront. Of course, I can observe the sight of the fossilized coral reefs thanks to the help of erosion, coastal abrasion and limestone mining. Here, limestone mining is generally for building materials as well as for cement production.

Today I am in a hilly land by the sea which was previously a limestone mining area. The mining traces are so visible because the chunks of coral are exposed and scattered over the ground. I went around to observe and find a variety of beautiful coral shapes. I mean, the fossil. Because I am somewhat of a lover of fossils from this underwater ecosystem ("the underwater on dry land"). There are only a few that I can find, including 'starstones' which are colonial corals, and one fossil sea snail, which is actually very common. As is known, coral is a marine animal that is related to jellyfish and sea anemones, it's just that they cannot swim freely, and they can either live alone or colonize as a group (see here).

Being in an ("ancient") place that looks to me like a fossil 'park' of a marine ecosystem, I can spend hours. When the imagination roams parts of the old world (very old world), under water, it is really a very exciting thing.

Here are some of the fossils in my collection at home. I took this picture while making this post.

Nature really is beautiful, kinda makes you wonder. I usually get terrified by underwater creatures, they're so many you'd think it's an entirely different universe.

Fear is also a natural feeling. And perhaps it is true that underwater creatures, as well as those on land, are afraid of humans too. Humans can do the worst things, they can cause the extinction of a living being, they can even play a role in causing natural disasters! How about that?😀
