eGifter VS Bitrefill: Buying Gift Cards With Crypto

Oftentimes people like to think of crypto as an "asset". While that's technically true, crypto was invented to be able to be spent like cash and these days it's easier than ever to buy things online with various cryptos. Previously, I've talked about how a lot of places online now accept cryptos for payments like NewEgg, but many of the biggest online retailers like Amazon haven't gotten on board with crypto just yet.

Fear not though, you can still buy things online from bigger websites like Amazon and eBay by buying digital gift cards directly with crypto. It's how I was able to buy my new Trezor One hardware wallet from Amazon as well as a couple other things this week from eBay. I won't be getting into how to do it here as the process is easy as can be, but I will be comparing two websites that I've used this week to buy digital gift cards. There are probably quite a few other sites out there that provide a similar service, but since I've personally used these two I can give a fair comparison between the two.

First up, let's talk about eGifter.

eGifter was the first ever site that I used to buy gift cards with crypto all the way back in 2016. They've been around for awhile and have a solid reputation.

The things that I like most about eGifter is that you can earn points by buying gift cards that you can later use to buy more gift cards with and the fact that you can buy gift cards for EXACT amounts. What I mean by this is that if you're looking to buy an eBay giftcard, you can go on eBay and put the item in your cart you're wanting and you'll know to the penny how much it'll cost. With eGifter, if you need a gift card for say $57.26 then you can buy an eBay gift card for exactly that much. This saves you the trouble of having a few cents just pointlessly laying around on your account. It's pretty convenient.

The biggest thing that I don't like with eGifter is that you can't buy Amazon gift cards through them with crypto at the moment. I'm not sure why this is, but hopefully in the future it'll change.

Next up, Bitrefill.

Bitrefill is quite a bit newer to me as I only first used it earlier today. It has great reviews though and I can personally vouch for it.

The biggest things that I like about Bitrefill is that you can actually buy Amazon gift cards on there with crypto and that it seems to be just a little quicker than eGifter.

It has a rewards system, but it's purely based on referrals to the platform and not based on how much you've spent. After you've spent $100 on the platform you unlock a referral code that you can give out to friends or family members and after they've spent $100 on the platform after signing up, you'll then get a free $10 in BTC. I prefer eGifter's rewards system personally, but some may like Bitrefill's better. It purely comes down to preference.

The biggest thing that I dislike (at least when buying Amazon gift cards) is that you can't buy gift cards for exact amounts. This may not bother some people, but if you have an Amazon order and your total is going to be $13.27 then you'll have to buy a $14 gift card if you want to completely avoid using a debit or credit card to partially pay for the item on the site.

Both are great, but for me personally... if I'm not buying an Amazon gift card then I prefer eGifter due to being able to buy exact amounts and because I personally like their rewards system more than Bitrefill's.

Regardless of which one you choose, I have two suggestions. The first is to use a supported crypto that has quick and low cost transactions such as Litecoin or Bitcoin Cash. You can certainly use things like Bitcoin or Ethereum, but you might end up spending a few extra dollars just to buy a $10 gift card due to network fees. Also, LTC and BCH transactions tend to go through a lot quicker which is convenient. The second suggestion is that if both sites have the gift card that you're wanting, compare the two sites and see which one will cost less. Shopping online with crypto is awesome, but saving money while doing it is even better!
