Getting old and not losing my shit
If I’m honest Hivers on occasions I’ve got a mind like a very leaky sieve and I was always misplacing stuff like my keys, wallet and head on occasions. Then several years ago I discovered Tile.
Small bluetooth tags that you could find with an app or ping with your phone to find your keys when they were buried under the cushions on the sofa.
When they first came out they were sealed and only lasted a year or so but a few years ago they started putting user replaceable button cells in them which is a much better idea.
Unfortunately while the Tile App is very good at finding stuff around the house, the Tile network has never been very big in the UK as if you dropped your keys or wallet outside it would show the last place they connected to your phone but if someone picked them up could take a while for someone with the app on their phone to pass by and update the tracker and realtime tracking was very poor.
Now there are better options Apple AirTags and Samsung Smart Tags both have much bigger user networks so the tracking and chance of finding your lost keys on the train or stolen bicycle is much greater.
So Hivers it’s time for a change but what to get? Luckily the choice is simple if You have an Apple iPhone get an AirTag if you’re using Android get a Smart tag.
So the other day up in Exeter I invested around £120 in a pack of 4 AirTags to replace some of my Tile trackers.
First things first 3D print of some AirTag Keyring holders for my keys and wallet lots of nice tag holders are available on Amazon and eBay but I want it now and they take about 30 minutes to print.
So thats a handy addition to my car keys and wallet hopefully no more losing my shit no matter how old I get.
After @scubhead lost his luggage coming back from Jamaica I thought it would be a good plan to add to my case for our upcoming trip to Egypt. Handy when your badge is full of expensive dive equipment.
Lastly what to do with my old Tile trackers well Hivers all is not lost one big plus with the tags is the ping on them is much louder than AirTags or Smart Tags so they are great for fitting to things that go missing around the house like Remotes or the garage and shed keys.
One useful feature that AirTags don’t have is pressing the connect button on the tag will ring your phone which is handy if its in a pocket or Bob the cat is sleeping on it.

PS: Thank you @ecency! This time Ecency restarted twice while I have done my spontaneous comment and the draft was sill here every time, even though I needed to navigate back to this post/comment. Great work you do! (Please redo your logo. Many who I wished to onboard think it stands for something I don't dare to mention.)
