The world inventions: The history and the case of ketchup!
Strange word, the word «ketchup», do you agree? Strangely exotic, without Latina or Arabica seu syllabus. And it is not so strange rather, because the word ketchup is coming from the east. Long before ketchup was the viscous, sweet and the tomato based product which we are having today, it was really a runny fish sauce.
To be precisely about where in the east this sauce was appearing the first time, it is not consensus on. Some people mean that the Chinese people were the first users of ketchup, because from there we find early references to a sauce made of pickled fish lakes.
The word ketchup means really «a lake of pickled fish». As mentioned, some people think that ketchup came from China, and other people are meaning that the sauce was invented in Malaysia, because you can find a sauce there that is named «kecap». The Mayalsian word means taste, so it tells us at any rate something about the use of the sauce.
Do you think that the first ketchup in the market was really Chinese or Mayalsian? Difficult to say. The only thing we are sure about is that Dutch and English sailors took such a spicy sauce with such a name came to Europe during the 1600s, and accordingly the ketchup was invented.
The English people enjoyed the universal sauce, and many producers made their own variants, and added a variety of flavors as mushrooms, nuts and anchovies. But there is nothing that is indicated that there was an English person that found the idea of placing a tomato in a ketchup bottle. To do that, we needed an American!
The tomato was invented of Spanish explorers, and it came to Europe around 1521. It was exotically beautiful and invigorating. In France, the tomato was called for «pommes d’amour», and this means apples of loving.
We can use the ketchup to different things today, both outside the home and inside the home. So, you use the ketchup to get the taste you really want in different and in same situations from time to time. We should be effective and productive when eating and doing different things, and there are always shadow prices or the dual prices about what to do. When we are doing a distinct thing, we lose the benefit, the inspiration and the utility for alternative uses, and Economics is about using scarce resources to the best purposes and the best applications you can find. We should try to enjoy life, also during the Corona crisis, and we should use our human power as good as we can also during the shutdown of different societies. We should get the salaries as high as we can by being working in different organizations, and we can be leaders also! Ketchup is giving us pleasure in life, and we should use it to give meaning and taste on meals!
