On March 17, 2021, the Awesome Unpacked event was broadcast through the official Samsung account on YouTube, an event where the new members of the Galaxy A family were announced, specifically the Galaxy A52, A72 and A52 5G. Buuut, that’s not what I want to talk to you about…

In said event, Samsung emphasized something that had already been announced before, precisely on August 18, 2020, but that did not make much echo and as of today, many users are still not aware of this "wonderful move", that is Samsung had not only promised 3 years of android operating system updates, but also 4 years of security patch updates, which guarantees the stability and operation of the devices for a long time, in addition to offering new features according to the software…. That’s great, right?

I don't think there’s a catch, or is it? Well, unfortunately in this case there is ... The promise of Updates of the Android operating system to the next version for 3 years is only available for the high-end product line and some products of the medium-high range launched from 2019:

Galaxy S: Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, S21+ 5G, S21 5G, S20 Ultra 5G, S20 Ultra, S20+ 5G, S20+, S20 5G, S20, S10 5G, S10+, S10, S10e, S10 Lite and the next devices in this range.

Galaxy Note: Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G, Note20 Ultra, Note20 5G, Note20, Note10+ 5G, Note10+, Note10 5G, Note10, Note10 Lite and the next devices in this range.

Foldable Galaxy Devices: Galaxy Z Fold2 5G, Z Fold2, Z Flip 5G, Z Flip, Fold 5G, Fold and upcoming Z range devices.

Galaxy A: Galaxy A72, A52 5G, A52, A71 5G, A71, A51 5G, A51, A90 5G and select devices to be announced in this range soon.

Tablets: Galaxy Tab S7 + 5G, Tab S7 +, Tab S7 5G, Tab S7, Tab S6 5G, Tab S6, Tab S6 Lite and upcoming Tab S series devices.

For example, the Galaxy S21 series, announced in January 2021 with OneUI 3 (the new version of Samsung’s skin on top of Android) with Android 11, will receive support for three operating system updates starting with Android 12. Devices in this range will also be the first Galaxy devices to update to Android 12 as soon as it is available alongside the next version of OneUI, and other devices will receive it shortly after according to the update schedule.

And what happens with those lower-end devices that aren’t on the list? Some devices will receive up to two versions of Android in addition to the version with which they were released. A clear example would be the Galaxy A10, an entry-level device that was put on sale in March 2019 with OneUI 1.0 on top of Android 9 Pie, received OneUI 2.0 with Android 10 Q on the second half of 2020, and is close to receiving OneUI 3 with Android 11.

And after that? All devices released as of 2019, whether listed or not, will receive 4 years of Android Security Patch Updates from their release date, either on a monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, or semi-annual basis. This includes devices from A, M, Xcover, Tab, Z, Note, and S series.

All this explanation that I am doing has another reason, in addition to informing those users who had no idea what I am talking about, and that is to discuss the high price of Samsung products compared to other alternatives on the market, mainly Chinese, whether they are Xiaomi, Oppo, Oneplus or Poco, since one of the reasons given by the company for why the high prices is that same promise of updates for a longer time, even beyond its competition, since someone has to work on said updates (Obviously employees of the same division of mobile devices of Samsung Electronics) and that someone needs to be paid for that.

Now tell me, do you think that's reason enough to pay up to $ 150 more for a Samsung product than another from a competitor with better features and cheaper? Personally, it is a difficult answer to answer since we will have to see what options are available and if we’re on a budget ... But I want to know YOUR opinion, what do you think? Leave it in the comments and let's talk about it!

See you in the next post, a hug for all…!

I think it also depends on the need of the consumer, in my case I usually use many applications, plus I always require somehow to have everything updated. However as a photographer I have not been able to place myself with another camera that is not samsung, not to be exquisite, it's because I'm really used to your camera that somehow has more durability than others. I went from an A30 to a Redmi Note 9, and the camera for me the low resolution and focus lasted a couple of months.

I'm a pro of updates, and stylish, that's why I always bet on Samsung.

I see @roadstories, even i'm starting to consider for a samsung device... The only thing that refrains me from doing it is that they're not using SoCs according to the devices other specs. For instance i like a lot the new A72, but it has the Snapdragon 720G Processor wich is inferior to last year A71 wich uses the 730 and 730G processor... It is that inconsistency with the specifications and the high prices that make me doubt about it.
