What security measures to prevent scams/hacks in the crypto world do you recommend?

I know scams and hacks are very regular occurrences in this industry and that people with crypto should always take precautions to ensure their devices are safe. In fact, I decided to ask this question after reading about a new type of scam that I wrote about here.

Some of the new security measures I have applied recently are the following ones:

  • Added the Malwarebytes Browser Guard chrome extension so it can provide protection at the browser level, I also have uBlock Origin.
  • Purchased Malwarebytes Premium to provide 24/7 active protection against ransomware, trojans, and all sort of hacks.
  • Started using 2FA authenticator apps with the possibility of accessing the codes from 2 different devices, so if one of the devices is damaged I can still access the necessary codes from the secondary device.
  • Started to use passwords managers. Apple devices have this function natively called Keychain but not Windows. The best would be to protect the password manager on mobile devices with something like TouchID or FaceID if possible.

Extra security measures that I have read good things about:

  • Using Yubikeys as 2FA instead of authenticator apps. I read Yubico is going to release a new Yubikey with a fingerprint reader for added protection.
  • Using a premium VPN to encrypt all your internet traffic and IP.

What security measures do you apply for yourself and which ones do you recommend?

Something I've done is to make sure that there are no extensions running in my browser other than trusted hive ones (Hive Keychain is the only one I have). Extensions have access to a lot of data on a website, and I don't want the possibility that my keys have been recorded by an extension after I've used my keys.

There are safe extensions that enhance your overall security. The Malwarebytes Browser Guard was released only a few months ago and it works very nicely. uBlock Origin is the best ad blocker out there. There are other trusted security extensions but I think these 2 are enough for me.

I have the yubico nft 🙂
Hope to get around to finding a free way to use it. That or make enough that the monthly fee does feel like much.

Do you mean the yubikey nfc?

The monthly fee? What do you mean by that?

Yes, yubikey nfc
Oh sorry. The monthly fee was for the password service. I've heard of at least one satisfactory free one but I think it takes some set up and regular management time.
