Megaminx (Dodecahedron Rubik's Cube) [ENG/ESP]

Hello, friends of the Toys on Hive. Today I want to share with you a new acquisition that is going to require a lot of patience.

Hola amigos de la comunidad Toys on Hive, hoy les quiero compartir una nueva adquisición que va a requerir de mucha paciencia.

I always go to one toy store in particular because they have such a wide variety of items, they are novel, and you go back to childhood without much thought. It is a magical trip every time I go through the door of this place, and we always come out with a new toy hehehe.

Siempre voy a una juguetería en particular, ya que tienen una gran variedad de artículos, son novedosos y regresas a la niñez sin pensarlo mucho. Es un viaje mágico cada vez que paso la puerta de este lugar y siempre salimos con algún juguete nuevo jejeje.

This time we discovered a variant of the Rubik's Cube. I played a lot with this 6-sided cube when I was 7-8 years old. My very naughty cousins would detach the pieces from the central axis and then place them in order according to the colors. They cheated when they put it together. Now that I am almost 50 years old, I find it impressive that this type of toy is still in use, but of course with a great increase in the difficulty to put it together. As they say, everything evolves.

The Megaminx or Dodecahedron is a toy that requires a lot of patience and mathematical ability to solve. Necessary characteristics of its predecessors the common puzzles. The fun of playing with it is that once all of the pieces are unscrambled in terms of their color position, you can put them back in order. The degree of difficulty is that while you think you have solved one side of the puzzle, you may have already disassembled another that you were halfway through.

En esta ocasión descubrimos una variante del Cubo Rubik. Yo jugué mucho con ese cubo de 6 caras cuando tenía 7-8 años. Mis primos que eran muy traviesos, le desprendían las piezas del eje central para luego colocarlas en orden según los colores. Realmente hacían trampa al armarlo. Ahora que tengo casi 50 años, me parece impresionante que este tipo de juguete siga vigente, pero por supuesto con un gran aumento en la dificultad para armarlo. Como dicen por allí, todo evoluciona.


El Megaminx o Dodecahedro es un juguete de que requiere de mucha paciencia y habilidad matemática para resolverlo. Características necesarias de sus predecesores los rompecabezas comunes. La diversión de jugar con él consiste en que una vez que todas las pìezas son desordenadas en cuanto a su posición de colores, tu puedas volver a ordenarlos. El grado de dificultad es que mientras crees que ya tienes resuelta una de sus caras, tal vez has desarmado otra que ya tenías a medio camino.

The Megaminx or Dodecahedron has 12 faces with different colors each. Each face consists of 11 pieces, where it has a central 5-edged star figure. This feature will be key when it comes to solving it because depending on its design, there are steps to follow in an orderly manner (algorithms) to solve the challenge of this three-dimensional figure.

At first, we bought the Megaminx for my son, but he has already solved it, and it no longer attracts his attention. So appealing to my childhood memories, I think I'll borrow it to play with this toy myself, you never stop being a kid, right? I also think it's great to try to put it together since I'm a fan of traditional jigsaw puzzles. I have developed my technique to put them together, but I find this type of three-dimensional puzzle interesting, I think it is a challenge to your neurons.

El Megaminx o Dodecahedro tiene 12 caras con diferentes colores cada una. Cada cara consta de 11 piezas, donde tiene una figura central de estrella de 5 aristas. Esta característica será clave a la hora de resolverlo, ya que dependiendo de su diseño hay pasos a seguir de forma ordenada (algoritmos) para lograr resolver el reto que implica esta figura tridimensional.


En un inicio compramos el Megaminx para mi hijo, pero él ya lo resolvió y ya no le lama la atención. Así que apelando a mis recuerdos de la niñez, creo que se lo pediré prestado para jugar yo con este juguete, total nunca se deja de ser niño ¿Verdad?. De igual forma me parece genial tratar de armarlo ya que yo soy fan hacer rompecabezas tradicionales. He desarrollado mi propia técnica para armarlos, pero me parece interesante este tipo de rompecabeza tridimensional, creo que es todo un reto a tus neuronas.
