Weekend-engagement topic week 38: Inventions

Since the human race began evolving we've been creating and inventing things; Necessity forced us to. Homo habilis, one of the earliest human beings, is credited with the invention of tools - Basic shards of rock chipped of larger pieces for use for cutting...With evolution came cognitive thought and...Millions of inventions since then.

The printing press. Computer chip. Writing. Bionic hearing aid, Rubber. Bronze. Push up bra's. Bluetooth. Space travel. Fossil fuels. LCD displays. Mini skirts. Record player. Penicillin. Electricity. Fountain pen. Numbers. Push up bra's. Plastic. Virtual reality. Cinema. Mini skirts. Artificial intelligence. Television. Art. Hydro-electricity. Corn flakes. Healthcare systems. The automobile. Aircraft. X-ray. Push up bra's. WiFi. Robotics. Velcro. Internet. The washing machine. Mini skirts. GPS. Wind farming. The wheel. Fire. SCUBA. Sex toys. LED lighting. Paint. Glass. Just to name a few.

weekend-engagement topic 38

All you have to do is choose an invention, any invention you like, respect, value, find interesting or use...It can be anything but your have to tell us what it is and why you like it or how you feel it's changed your life, or the world.

You can see my list above which could, in fact, be almost endless - So select one of your own, or mine, and tell us why. Get creative, tell us historical facts, the evolution of that invention, who made it, how it's used and so on...Or be humorous and inventive!...Just get involved.

I've used this image I took of some of my dad's nib-pens and brushes...He's gone now, but what he created as an artist using these tools was nothing short of amazing to me - But I'm his son so that's as it should be.

You need to drop your comments of under 200 words below, not post elsewhere and drop the link...That's not what it's all about folks...You'll know this if you actually read this paragraph, or you'll just look like a dick otherwise. This is all about creating a place for users to engage with others over the weekend, so drop your comments below and give people a reason to engage with you.

Read that part up there 👆

That's it folks...I'll be handing out hive on Monday to some of those who comment below. Also, feel free to post about this topic in THE WEEKEND as I'll be in there over the weekend. Remember though, don't post links here below, comment!

I hope y'all have a great weekend guys and gals and that I'll see you around below in the comments section. Don't forget to share this post with your friends as they may like to get involved too.

Oh, lastly...Tell someone your care about them and respect and value them...There's always time for that.

My favorite invention is this little bouncing friend I got 🤗🤗🤗
(🎶you gotta read this with dramatic music in the background! 🎶)

Not only have I spent countless hours running after it with blissful excitement... I've shed tears next to it, I've spent nights with it, mornings, afternoons...
Summers, winters, autumn, spring... Indoors, outdoors
It's been with me through puberty, through breakups, through school and even university...
I've shared it with family, with friends, with complete strangers...
In Suriname, in Curaçao, on multiple continents!
And even if I'm not with it, I spend time watching from a far.
I've been happy, sad, angry, depressed, drunk, sleepy, tired, ecstatic, with it....
I've practically grown up with it!
And things have changed, life happened, it hasn't always been the same.
But through it all...I've come to appreciate it for much more than it's bounce, I've come to love it for what came with it and I will never forget how much it has influenced my life!

I love you my little bouncy friend...🤗🤗🤗
I love you basketball!

Great entry and you're first again bro!

I love how you commented here...Told us what it has meant to you over your life. Nice work sir.

Tell me, have you had only one or has they're been many?

😃 Thanks fun topic once again, I'm genuinely curious what the rest will come up with.
(also I think I'm lucky with the time difference)...

Tricky question here, I almost feel like it would be wrong to say I've had many! Haha I'm picturing my current bball looking at me in disgust 😂😂😂.
But I think I've actually owned about 7, I mean they'll go for years if you take proper care of them...

Yeah, you get a jump on the rest of the world...Get to the topic first. Still, it's not just chance, you actively choose to comment. So thanks.

Yeah, I remember the basket balls at school must have been 20 years old, all worn and faded. They last for a while though. You play a lot I guess, so it makes sense you have had multiple...Just tell the current one it's the best! 😂

I have fond memories of the phys ed classes as a kid, using those really old basketballs thinking of how long they've been around, how many people have played with them. Some teachers even when they were kids attending the school could have used them. Always interested me to think of it!

Nice invention. I was good at throwing three pointers, but not good for anything else. I have a cousin who plays in the national team. So I guess we were all good at sports, but didn't develop it. I love the description. It's catchy!

I gotta be honest, I didn't hear dramatic music... I heard The awesome tuneful sound of Bill Withers singing "Just the two of us" 😁

That was a profound description of just how something that could be perceived by many as a mere 'toy' or a piece of sports equipment, has actually been a tool, mechanism and pastime that has helped you process stuff, burn off emotion, ponder life and your place in it and just let loose and have a good time.

Maybe it has come to represent a constant, stabilising force that has always been with you throughout all this stuff. Whatever the reason, I feel pretty good you've had it or them as the case may be. Great summing up of it's importance in your life. 😎👍

That could also work!

Indeed, there's this saying in the basketball community: "Basketball is my first love" and it basically means that people come and go (relationships), situations change but basketball remain loyal. It gives what you put into it...

I don't think it's just a basketball thing! So it might apply to other sports or whatever you're passionate about doing.

Ah very cool, a basketball is definitely a good choice. I love having one, though I haven't used mine much in a few years, it's still an awesome thing to have. Take it with you and just bounce it around and shoot it up at things and you are bound to have some fun!

One of my favorite inventions is this rechargeable mini fan. It runs on a battery and can also be used without the battery when plugged to power supply. I use it when it gets very hot especially at night when I have to shut my windows because of the loud generator noises from neighbors. It lasts me about 2+ hours which is not long but I must have fallen asleep before it runs out. I also change the battery when I wake up at night.

Its very handy and can be taken everywhere. For a hot climate with steady power outages, this is an awesome invention.

Ah yes, the humble blow-fan. These are a great invention! I need air-movement at night and what better way to get it.

When in the UK it was very hot and a lot of their properties don't have air conditioning so I ended up buying one of these and sleeping was more enjoyable. It's amazing how such a simple thing can have such a big impact on life. Although, sleeping well is important...I'm a bear in the morning if I don't!

Do those generators from the neighbours run all night?

No because it is generally far less important than household heating lol. You must have been here on one of the rare occasion the mercury headed slightly above freezing when we get my favourite thing about summer warm rain!!!

In all seriousness, I stayed in London a couple of years ago when taking my Daughter to see a show on the West End for her birthday and I was in a basement room and it was stifling, we were moved room during the night as it was utterly unbearable. It was basically the only time I have ever thought about air-conditioning in this country lol.

2018 heat wave. +27 every day for weeks. It's funny though as =27 here is nothing at all...+45 is. Still, with no AC there...It was uncomfortable to slee in as I'm used to AC.

Imagine your London experience for months on end...That's Australia in summer. Lol.

Oh that was exactly when it was, 2018, my youngest Daughters 18th birthday. Whilst we were in London, Kent a few miles away reached above 35 a very unusual occurrence here. I experience 40+ in Turkey and found it unbelievably intense. I developed a massive appreciation of AC on that holiday!!!

Yep...It was unpleasant for sure. It was funny around 27 degrees though, all the poms be red and flushed and all. 😂It's funny though, me, the chocolatey-coloured Aussie seemed to be the only one putting on sunblock. Our sun is brutal here though, so it's habit.

I think that for me it has to be internet. I can't imagine my life without it. At very least it is damn useful for introvert like me. I don't have many friends in real life and I rarely meet them. So internet gives me friends that I find more interesting than those in real life. It gives me a way to engage with them. Those interactions prevent me from turning back into monkey. The opposite is also true- thanks to internet most of the time I only need to communicate as much as I want. I can buy/ learn new things online. In a way I am very lucky to live now. Without internet I would most likely have never have found many of my passions, hobbies or precious dreams.

0

I'm not surprised the internet got mentioned and I assume it will again. I can certainly understand what it means for an introvert like yourself...It's revolutionised communication right? I wonder how people would react if it got turned off...i mean it happens in power failures but I mean permanently...The would would come to a standstill I think!

Haha to many introverts here lol. Me included, I mean I am good with ppl but maybe due to the jobs couldn't stand them in private. Maybe it is also because the ones that are nearby in real life aren't on the same page as yourself. In my area the people aren't that open, they are full of prejudice and mostly not willing to look over the edge of the plate. But it happens all over.
That is what I like about the internet, which I really just discovered lately. You can find ppl all over the world and connect to them. And with some you feel really close, even though you're thousand miles apart.

If it would fail permanently, like @galenkp threw in, I think the world would be in turmoil. We are just too dependent on it, economy, transfer of goods etc.

Locally you would see ugly things after a while.

I agree. after losing internet permanently the world would be in chaos. it is quite scary how much we need internet.

My mom calls it "necessary evil", but inventions are objects and use is what makes them good or bad. Phone have changed our lifestyle and made things easier in some regards. I love the idea that they get easier to use on each iteration.

I think your Mom is right in many ways, but then, so are you, so many inventions, especially related to technology have been massively beneficial or hugely sinister depending on the way each 'tool' has been used. Just imagine life without them now, it is incredibly difficult. 😎

This doesn't go far from what I said above. The tool isn't inherently evil; the use might be. And yes, however, tools are part of the human experience since homo habilis, so we are keeping up with the trend.

It always makes me think, when I watch movies from just a few short years ago and people don't just text or call each other when one of them doesn't show for a mysterious meeting or the girl running from the psycho doesn't call the cops, then I remember that when I was a teen there was no such thing as a mobile phone... It's crazy how life has changed so drastically.

The Cordless Drill. My beloved cordless Drill It can Screw and Drill all day...

A Small Poem:
Why I would choose to be reincarnated as a Cordless drill.

Screwing all day without a rest
Drilling so hard just as a test
I put you on hammer for satisfying vibrations
And When your energy is spent...
I simply Return you to your Charging station

That's deep right there... Future Poet Laureate.

Joking aside, gotta be the most indispensable Tool on site.
I'm Pretty sure Makita made the first cordless drill with a rechargeable battery attached via a cable in 69 and then in 78 they made the first Cordless with the battery in the tool.

My favorite invention is the "angle grinder" is a tool that has endless uses, works on electricity and in recent years they have evolved, now there are also wireless models, although this is very expensive

I have commented in another moment that I am passionate about working with reclaimed wood, as it is wood that was destined for the trash, it requires a lot of work to leave it well to use it again, that is why I love the ¨angular¨ grinder.

This tool works with different discs, they can be cutting or polishing discs, the cutting discs vary according to the surfaces you want to cut, there are for cutting metals, wood or seramics, the polishing discs also vary according to these surfaces

The grinder is an extension of my hands, without it I feel that my hands are missing

There are many stories about this tool, misuse can be dangerous, there is a lot of information on the web about this topic, here I share a small video of what can happen if it is not used correctly

source: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7ZIENjH-HhNTAghSSqvRfA

I recommend a lot of care when using this tool

It was invented in 1954 by a company called ¨Ackermann¨ + ¨Schmitt¨

I take this opportunity to wish you all an excellent weekend

The angle grinder is a very useful thing, dangerous as hell in the wrong hands, but super-useful.

I'm a tool-guy...Have many and one of them is an angle grinder. Mine is corded but a cordless is on the cards soon, the technology has advanced so far that they are a legitimate option now...Certainly for home handyman use which is what I'd be using it for.

Interesting that it was invented in 1954...I would have thought earlier...It's interesting though, that so many inventions come from the need to do a thing...So many just sort of happen by mistake but many inventions are borne of necessity to do a thing. The angle grinder is one I'd say. A most useful tool and invention.

how are you @ bertrayo good day
How good that my investment was to your liking, and that above all it was very useful for your work

The good thing about this machine is that it allows you to change the discs, you can buy a wood cutting disc, a metal disc and a flag disc to polish and brush the wood, these have several granites that go from 40 to 120 the higher the number , the thicker the granite. with this tool the work is much faster.

Hello my friend, it's been a while since we crossed paths, great to see you 😎

I recommend a lot of care when using this tool

Oh anyone, I mean anyone that knows me, knows I should keep well, well away from power-tools! We all have strengths and weaknesses and long ago I realised that working with tools and my hands was not mine. I envy you 'real men' who are great at this stuff but I was not born for it lol.

Without tools like this that deal with a complicated, annoying aspect of a job, tradesmen would struggle on jobs for longer, consumers would pay more in labour costs and I may have to attempt to use tools myself and that is a terrible option 😱 I love that you bring new life to materials that others think have ceased to be useful, this has a great number of benefits to us all. 👍🙂

How are you dear friend @stevenwood it is true time without seeing each other, we did not meet in another commitment challenge and now we meet again with the same themes

The use of tools is for all people, it is only a matter of practice, twenty years ago I would never think that wooden furniture would be manufactured, it is encouraged, practiced and very careful, I respect the tool you have in your hand. without a doubt you will too, I was totally null with them

I like to contribute my grain of sand to the care and reduction of the felling of trees, it is the reason for starting to build things with old pallets that were destined for the trash, but I would never make so many types of furniture and best of all buy me, life surprises you at all times.

very happy to answer your comment

I'm a peanut grindin fool! My last weld table I got real good at signing my name in cursive with one.

Never used one on my welds, just cleaning the material before I ran a bead. Some 'welders' use them to hide their ugly welds.

the grinder is ideal for that kind of thing friend @dandays leave the welds smooth, you can also use a flag disk for metals, it is impeccable, you should see that the finish has another presentation unless your welds are an invisible type seam, I have seen welders do that

Hmmm tough one... So many things are so useful... I would say that it would be... The pen. Yup. How else would all those awesome books we read now would have been written? Pen, pencil, crayons, everything connected with writing/sketching/drawing. All the ideas were once written on paper/walls/stone. Yup. Scribble tool😍😂✒️

I knew you'd say something that related to writing or art! I agree though...Paper and pen. Great inventions and without them where would we be?

The pen, or let's call it writing implement, changed the world. It allowed us to document more effectively, to record history and for future generations to learn what happened in times past. I wonder, with everything so digital, what might be left for future generations to find and if they'll have the ability to retrieve the digital information at all.

0

avatar

Yup, it's one basic thing we can't ignore today, even years later after we advanced technologically.
I was actually thinking too if the kids of the future will even want to hold a pen anymore. If writing as we know it might change. Digitally one can think that information is safer to be stored. But a fire can burn the building with the books and the computers too. So what makes an information indestructible? Hm.... I don't know where you could store data and expect complete protection. But nevertheless I am sure that the pen is here to stay for a while.

great choice. I think that trying to burn image on wood without drawing it first with a pencil would much harder. And burning tool even looks a bit similar a fat pencil...so without pen/ pencil I would probably not be able to create anything at all. And a lot of entertainment would also be lost as well. No books, no movie scripts, texts of songs(assuming that without pen/pencil we would also not have keyboards)...The world would be kinda boring and sad place. Also aliens would have even more reason to laugh at us:
after all this time those primitives can't even write/ draw.

I really wanted to write about push up bras but I chose flight instead

img_0.48155041504122015.jpg

Another wonderful weekend challenge set by @galenkp and what a great one. For my topic I choose FLIGHT! who doesn't like getting from one end of the planet to another in less and a month and being at the peril of 40ft wave!

I thought I'd use the opportunity to also throw a spanner in the works of history and if by the end of it your mind is blown leaving you wanting to learn more, I won't blame you. I'm also dropping the @homeedders tag in this because it's quite an important thing to Unschool people about.

You'd be forgiven if you thought the Wright Brothers were the first people to invent flight, its what we've been conditioned. But they were not the first not did they come up with the concept.

Humans since the beginning of time had been trying to fly and none so more famous than Divinci, but little to the Italians knowledge did they know that people on the other side of the globe were already taking to the skies.

img_0.9315454795878317.jpg

Indigenous Australians had already developed flight and knew about wing shapes, lift, drag and all that jazz. It was imbedded in thousands of years of knowledge and teachings and utilised in weapons and hunting tools.

In fact when the English invaded Australia it was the most feared weapon as not all boomerangs come back. There are boomerangs that weigh a significant amount and if they hit you they crack your skull open. They are also designed to turn, dip or rise in mid battle to stop their opponents from avoiding the strike. Being able to flank your opponents with a 20 - 30kg log that has a heap of momentum behind it. Invaluable in battle.

The boomerangs in stores today are kids toys, designed for fun and to lure birds out of trees and heard them. No one wants to be throwing a stick and constantly walking up to it to do it again. So just make it come back.

The English spent years studying it and couldn't unlock it nor could the Americans.

img_0.8748296910810682.jpg

David Unaipon A.K.A the Divinci of Australia

The famous Aboriginal man who appears on the Australian $50 note and accredited to alot of technological advances not just in Australia but across the globe.

But he is best known (to those that know the story) for being the father of flight.

Born in 1872 and learning of the race to take to the skies David knew what he had in his hand was the most valuable thing on the planet. He worked with many people to implement the technology in Boomerangs into vehicles. Unfortunately David a black man could not afford the patents of his designs and lost the battle to others who took his work and Boomerang technology overseas.

He tried to develop the first helicopter but without financial backing and investors not interested in working with a black man further lost his bid at flight.

In 1903 the Wright brothers took their first short flight, no doubt off the back of the work David had been doing and the rest is history.

img_0.31155100116837253.jpg

Aussies recognise our place in history, where Australia was robbed of another invention based on racial tensions and opinions in other countries. We continue to honour our brothers who achieve greatness.

David Unaipon, the father of flight

Aptly we write this before filming our first full review in 4 months, you've guessed it, *drum roll The Motor Car, the first one was patented by Carl Benz in 1886. In a word without this there'd be no Planetauto, this motorised carriage has many names from automobile to jalopy, it's primary goal was a to b.

vlcsnap-2020-12-12-17h25m56s637.png

However, it soon became so much more, with a whole evolving round it, no longer just a form of transport but a way of life for many, detailing, modification, tuning, art, entertainment The auto spawned pickups, vans, suv's, limos etc etc etc -

Where do you start with car? It's what you might call versatile especially fuel wise LPG, Petrol, Diesel, Hydrogen, Electric, Bio Fuel and who knows what moving forward.

Then in 1895, Carl Benz, a first once again invented the truck.

The car has allowed us to express our love, creativity and so much more.

Thank you @Galenkp, what a great idea

Hmm, there's no surprise here...Mechanised transport has been one of the most important inventions and it's amazing at how fast the technology advanced...Not just the vehicle itself but the manufacture of it, of components and materials...Rubber, carbon fibre, ceramics, paint, wiring, computers, plastics and injection moulding, robotics end so on...I'm a car guy so...Massive invention for me. Although, I wold have saved a lot of money had it not been invented!

Oh, yes. A fine rest for horses and legs. Definitely motor vehicles changes transportation and lifestyle. Hopefully they will become less of a hazard to the environment in the future. And it's interesting how after things have filled a function we start to make it more appealing. I mean aesthetically. Modify it for other functions. That's human skill at its finest!

I gotta confess, I am a guy who isn't all that interested in cars, this comes shortly after admitting on another comment I am no good at tools, I fear my masculinity is being eroded away evermore as I scrollm down this feed haha.

Having said all that. When it is time for the annual service or the car is getting work done and we are without it even for a day, we feel like prisoners in our own home lol. In many ways it is not a good thing that we are so utterly reliant on our vehicles, but how on earth could we not be? The freedom this one invention has allowed people from every corner of the planet, the ability to find work further afield, the socio-economic benefits are staggering.

As you correctly point out, there would be no @planetauto and what would self-improvement books be filled with, without all those Henry Ford quotes? 🤷‍♂️😎👍

Whether you know you can do a job or can't - you're right - yes the vehicle is a vehicle to so many other avenues, transport, then there's the people that drive the people to the destination, the people who repair it, make parts, grow the rubber and so on - no doubt you know of Fordlandia, thank you for H Ford bit :)

Oh I am fascinated to know how transformative it would have been if Fordlandia had been a success, I remember reading that Ford's wealth at it's height, by todays standards would compete with those at the very pinnacle of industry today, Musk and Gates would still be a fraction behind him even now, if we can ever describe the odd ten billion in fractional terms!

thank you for H Ford bit :)

The man certainly did have a way with words that still makes them incredibly relevant and not at all dated today and an innovative and enlightened style of management that many would be well advised to adopt today, he was the perfect meeting of practicality, dreams and ideas, (not at all a perfect man, who among us is?) Quotes are a passion of mine and a big part of the reason I started the self improvement community where Ford's words make more than an occasional appearance.

Great to cross paths, Galen's weekend engagement post does that for the community, opens new doors.

Take good care and keep motoring 😎👍🚘

My invention is the humble graphite pencil. I love writing and I keep a lot of pencils around for many things. The first know graphite wood pencil was invented back in 1560
by the Italina couple Simonio and Lyndiana Bernacotti. After that it has become a wonderful and loved companion for humans. Plans, drawings, letters, you name it. The pencil has been there. I think I need to point out it wonderfulness in verse:

Sharp, sharp, sharp,
pointy black lead
see the lines where I walk
grip me good or I fall.
Everything important
goes as draft through me,
I'm the bridge between
what's real
and your creativity.
My existence has spun
several inventions.
Some have tried to replace
but attempts have been failure.
Once people lost time
building a pen
for places where ink does not flow,
my friends the Russians
decided to carry me along.
Kids tend to hate me
as in their hands I'm rough,
but give them time
patience
and love begins to form.

The humble pencil is a great invention and it's not at all surprising you mention it. It was first made in 1560? That surprised me...I had thought it would have been much later than that, by a couple hundred years at leas. 1700-1800's maybe. I know how you like to write and how important a pencil would be to you...But like you say, there's so many other uses!

Nice call on this invention indeed.

I was also surprised about it. But this is the pencil as we know it. You know wooden pencil and graphite lead. There were previous iterations in metal casings and the word pencil used to refer to certain type of brush used by artists. One that was made of camel hair. It was very interesting to delve into the history of such an important tool for humanity. And well, kudos for bringing out this topic for this week. It was indeed a good call.

This is not my entry so don't count it against my 200 word limit.

Just a couple of days ago I was thinking about my friend Spencer. It's been over 30 years since I've seen him, and miss him. A genuine crazy bastard, he was my first college roommate. A 6'8" basketball player. One of the most brilliant people I've ever had the privilege to meet.

We only had two classes together in college. One was an anthropology 100 level class (that athletes took when they desperately needed grade help) and the topic of the day was nurture v nature. The subject was mother's milk and it's importance in child development (yes, we were that arrogant to believe that our untested opinions mattered). Spencer raised his hand and actually stood to rise to the defense of mother's milk. "I believe very seriously in the sanctity of mother's milk. Principally because I very much like the container it is shipped in."

He also liked push up bras and mini skirts. The good news was that in 1970 we saw way more mini skirts than push up bras. Just sayin'

Yes indeed, I think there is a certain amount of context in living through the pre-digital and post-digital age. I think there is perhaps a disconnect of just how life was such a few short years ago. Using a payphone with coins, a restrictive corded home telephone in just one room of the house (if you were lucky enough to have one!) watching snooker on a black and white portable TV and somehow always being able to discern which were the different coloured balls, sending a hand-written letter, I miss those a lot, licking the back of the queens head, I mean a stamp of-course!

To have conceived of all this when I was a teen would have seemed miraculous.

The internet is definitely a good invention and has many benefits for humanity as well as many perils. It will be interesting to see how things shake out when the internet turns 50, 100, 200 years old. Will it age as well as the printing press has? One can only hope it doesn't get controlled as badly as the powers that shouldn't be want it to be!

0

avatar

Absolutely! The human mind can scarcely conceive of how things evolve in such a short space of time in this exponential age in which we live, it feels like quantum leaps are taking place daily. What will the future hold that seems utterly mind-blowing, right now?

The powers that 'definitely shouldn't be' do have a way of placing themselves squarely in the middle of anything that will further their oft' nefarious agenda of control, don't they? I hope that those of us who choose decentralised in as many ways as we can will lead the way in prohibiting this as 'our' technology evolves.

Can I put on the list gin? I know it's alcohol, but I can't tell you how many nights after a horrible work day having a good gin on club soda is so delicious. It has to be the good stuff though; those rubbing alcohols mixed up with pine cones just don't cut it.

Maybe a better term for my favorite invention is just the art and craft of distillation?

I think many would concur that 'gin is in!' as long as we can have whisky, vodka, beer, wine and all of the other wonderful beverages that sometimes guide us gently into a relaxed state especially as you say, after a tough day at work.

I wholeheartedly concur about the quality making ALL the difference too. Oh distillation, so many thanks we do indeed owe you.

Happy weekend 😎👍

I too certainly concur gin should be high on the list. Interestingly I found myself with no gin recently as we are clearing house and experimented with Jaegermeister and tonic now don't rush to judge......it was superb. Trust me really damned good.Surprised I was, drunk I did get. Refreshing it was

It is a magical feeling when we think we don't have a mixer in the house and them boom we suddenly have an awesome new 'go to' tipple. That does sound a strange concoction but damn, if I'm not dying to try it now haha

yikes! awesome man...sorry for the booze call out! good for you my friend - I have a family of histories...I'm working on cutting back too. 2014? That is awesome - working at a brewery and being lost in the culture, I am envious of your discipline. Those big drinking days, honestly, aren't worth it (this is coming from a Sconnie, where it's an 8 day week of events if you choose to, btw)

Now that you ask, not really I guess. I've touched on the subject a few times but there's a lot more dark than light on that one. I've actually made a note to remind myself to write about the last time I drank, August 2, 2014, you know it's bad when the date's etched in your mind. But it's just a note, I haven't brought myself to tell that one yet cuz it's pretty bad.

How's your weekend goin, doin some gin drinkin? My mothers uncle's drink was gin. Gin & Tonic, I don't think I ever saw him drink anything else.

I am drinking some gin, but it's the NA stuff by Zero Monday. I'm on a cleanse until June, so I found your comment a bit synchronous, honestly. The drinking culture here is pretty rich (coworkers/family, etc.), so I was actually thinking of writing a book about the experience just as something to document the next few months.

I'm not much of a tonic fan, but I do like the taste of a good gin with club soda or even seltzer water. I'm also finding some decent NA beers around here...so far so good as I can't say I miss the booze thus far. How about you? You having a good weekend?

I actually impressed myself with the ability to continually lower the bar. I'd come to, get horrified at where/with whom I had awoken and swear that I'd never get that bad again.

Couple of weeks later I'd inevitably prove myself a liar and lower the bar again.

I haven't had gin in 30 years. But there was a time that I just loved a Gin Rickey or a w/tonic in the right company. I actually still drink some tonic sans gin for cramp relief.

I like the idea of the art and craft of distillation. Even though I can't play...

yeah, it's a pretty cool craft; I know some home distillers who have spent a lot on equipment to distill their own vodkas/gins. I don't have the stomach to make it at home, but I do give those who learn the craft a lot of credit. It is an artform, no doubt, as you said...

My last comment on someone's post was agreeing that distillation was an amazing invention but yes, as you say, without purification we would be lost!

I have actually just started to donate money each month to a charity that spends the whole pound/dollar on water treatment in some of the poorest regions of the world because exactly as you say purification is so damn important and we take this fundamental for granted I think, thanks for reminding us all not to take the small things for granted. 😎👍

I would say the most important invention ever, (my opinion), was the printing press. Prior to it almost all knowledge was the sole property of the wealthy that could afford hand written books and time to learn and study. The printing press changed that.

Eventually people no longer needed to travel to the town square to hear the news of the day, week month or in some cases the year. Good in one respect, bad in that people no longer had any one with differing views to discuss the news with.

As with all inventions, there are good and bad issues. All invention have adverse effects, whether if be societal, economical, or natural. Inventions change things, this keeps life interesting, chaotic.

It is in chaos that we know we are alive, that we are not just standing still with no where to go in a well ordered society, or well mannered natural environment. We need the dog-eat-dog world of nature,

With the printing press people were finally able offer up their own thoughts to other people. No printing press, no "Mein Kampf", no WW2, no model T, no "Bugatti Chiron". It was the printing press that made most other inventions possible.

0

avatar

I wonder if it's possible to narrow down the one single most valuable invention in the world...I don't mean ten pivotal inventions, just one. I'd not want that job. I'd have to say that the printing press would be a contender. I mean, if we strip away all the inventions that we can do without...The car, internet end so on...Would the printing press be the one? (I say, do without as we can live without cars and internet etc*. ) Hmm, I wonder.

The wheel, the printing press...What would it be?

Of course the world can't, or won't, live without all it's inventions...Although, it's doing a pretty good job rendering the printing press redundant.

Thanks for this cool response mate, it's much appreciated.

!ENGAGE 15

The wheel may be more important not sure, they both have had a very big big impact,

0

I agree...It's mindboggling to think of a world without either.

0
0
0.000
avatar

The fact that it's redundant now shouldn't take an iota away from it's total impact. That would be like taking edged weapons out of warfare because the guns are better. Entire outcomes would have been different.

In that competition? I go to steel. The most important thing we humans did in our history. Not the best maybe, but so much of our history rests on it...

0
0
0.000
avatar

Redundancy shouldn't mean irrelevancy...But we live in a world/society where what we have never seems good enough...Everyone lamenting what they have and wishing for something better...When what we have may be the best it ever gets. Ok, advances in technology aside.

You're right too...So many things we don't seem to value now had massive impacts upon human beings. Well said.

The printing press was definitely crucial for humanity and for knowledge in general. The books and literacy that came with it was not reserved just for the people with money and power any longer. Anyone could have it!

0

It opened a lot of new worlds for people, it took a little while, but eventually the people had access to reserved knowledge.

The printing press made it possible for knowledge (Knowledge) to be passed among ordinary mortals. Prior to that knowledge was the private property of the Church or the most wealthy of people. It added an entire dimension to the 'common' man.

Very interesting!!! The printing press was an excellent invention that gave many contributions, it marked a before and after. I agree with your vision of chaos, it's very necessary for transformations and evolution.

My Alexa device ranks right up there with my favorite inventions. I am handicapped and live alone and Alexa has played a big part in allowing me to live independently.

Amazon released Alexa in 2014 and it wasn't long after that my son bought one for me for a Christmas gift.

Wiki says that in 2018, Amazon had more than 10,000 employees working on Alexa and related products. And in 2019 they had sold over 100 million Alexa-enabled devices.

I use mine for setting timers and. alarms, and can tell her to remind me when there is an MSP Waves or Vimm broadcast I don't want to miss.
I use it for listening to audio books while I am folding laundry or working in the kitchen. I can download books from my local library and Alexa reads them to me! That alone has been a great feature during this past year while staying isolated at home.
She can read me entire recipes, or play a news broadcast or tell me the weather forecast.
I can ask her what time the F1 qualifying begins or the race starts.

I love it when I randomly think of a song I love and haven't heard for a while and Alexa will play it for me, or shuffle through songs by a particular artist or albums I'm in the mood for. Her speakers are really nice quality.

I have lights in the house plugged into smart plugs and I can direct her to turn lights on or off without getting out of my chair or out of bed. She can turn the outdoor lights on for me, and during the holidays, even the Christmas decorations I put on the front porch.

And I have had a couple of situations where I got myself into a predicament and needed assistance and didn't have my phone close at hand. I have a skill set up where I can tell her to notify my daughter and she is set to emai, text, and place a phone call simultaneously that says I need help.

I definitely feel safer with her in the house!

0

avatar

What the hell? I had no idea you were an F1 fan! We've got that in common. This blew me away.

Anyway, I'm often critical of these devices listening into us all the time and of people who are too lazy to look at their watch to get the time...But here you are changing my whole perception of how these things can be used! I imagine your Alexa device to be almost irreplaceable to you considering how you use it.

There's definitely an excellent use-case right here and I can understand why the invention has meant so much to you.

It is gorgeous, isn't it! I still need to warm up to Danny Ric..... I will, I'm sure. He seems to have a huge ego and need to be center stage, but I don't know much about him yet. I loved the camaraderie between Lando and Carlos. I'm not sure that will happen with Danny.

I can see that...He's pretty fun-loving and I think that comes across as ego...But I think they all have some of that, think that they're the best. It's a tough line of work. Give it half the season and see how you feel.

Wow. Alexa is pretty cool, but I never thought about how cool. That's some really good stuff there.

I know this will surprise you, but I've ridden a motorcycle a couple of times. And I pay attention to the business of motorcycles. So I have to show you, Yamaha has made some mobility products.

https://electrek.co/2019/10/10/yamaha-announces-new-electric-motorcycles-scooters-e-bikes/

It's a longish article on elektric, but just go to the bottom. My first motorcycle 55 years ago was a Yamaha and I've owned 3 more since then. Really good gear. Anyway, that 4 wheel drive would take you places that would amaze you I'm thinking...

Wow! Those are all really great looking! Bravo Yamaha. The newest one I have from PRIDE is zero turn, all wheel drive, but I'm not terribly impressed with the quality. I had the repair man here last week about some charging issues.
It's good to know about alternatives! Thanks! My guy restored old bikes and 70s Yamahas were a favorite. He died 4 years ago and it still feels odd not to find motorcycle parts in my laundry room!

I complain about our Alexa all the time as I have concerns about relying too much on tech for simple stuff and privacy issues but wow, it is an absolute godsend for you, I am thrilled it has given you such essential piece of mind.

I have a skill set up where I can tell her to notify my daughter and she is set to email, text, and place a phone call simultaneously that says I need help.

Never in a million years would I have even conceived of this! I am far more grateful that Alexa exists today and very pleased that she has an eye on you in the greatest way imaginable. Technology really is a multi-faceted beast isn't it, the difference in use and potential use range from terrifying to amazing.

You raised another amazing part of the technology that we have at our fingertips nowadays, when I was young, there was no way to hear a song you loved unless you had the money to buy it OR the nimble fingers and ears to record it on to audio-tape from the radio, this is one of my favourite parts of the present day. Now we have websites, YT, Alexa and even our phones can store a vast catalogue of tunes perfect for any mood. 🙂👍

Having Alexa gives my kids some valuable peace of mind knowing they don't have to worry quite so much about me. My daughter lives 10 minutes away, but if she does not respond Alexa goes on to contact my son and daughter in law who have assured me that even though they are 150 miles away they can call emergency services. I have a remote that allows me to talk to Alexa that I can carry in my scooter basket, that let's me feel secure if I go out to the mailbox or around in the yard. Even though I can't walk, she gives me so much confidence!

Hello @galenkp and friends. There are many inventions that I like a lot, but there are 2 that I use a lot and they are 1.- The internet and 2.- the what´sapp application on the phone.

WhatsApp Image 2020-07-23 at 2.37.11 AM.jpeg
The second works with the first. 6 months ago we saw photos of the birth of a nephew who is in another country. We also make virtual birthdays and make video calls at the time that we are going to sing the birthday and the family member sings with us with the video call.

WhatsApp Image 2020-04-15 at 7.33.45 PM.jpeg
We have a group made up of relatives in Colombia, the United States, and Venezuela. Another group of guys in Peru, Italy, Ecuador and Venezuela. Every day we greet each other and any disappointment is told by the what'sapp group. I don't know who invented it, but it is a great tool for communication with all of us who are distant.

The internet was always going to be a popular choice I think, and together with WhatsApp has connected so many people together , just like your family and friends. I have a WhatsApp group with my family who are spread all over the world and it comes in handy to drop messages so everyone knows things at the same time.

So, yes I think the internet is a great invention and it makes me wonder what might be next. Teleportation?

Teleportation would be a great invention...Although, when one is turned into a cloud of separate molecules for the transfer one would need to be reassembled into a whole thing at the other end...Hopefully all the bits go back in the right places! 😂

Hi Galen, I'm a new member of Hive. Thanks @trangbaby for bringing me here. This is a great idea, I have a lot of favorite items. One of my favorite inventions is the coffee filter. I was born and raised in the highland of Vietnam, where we grow a lot of coffee and we are the second largest coffee exporter in the world, after Brazil.
Since I was a kid, I learned how to make coffee from my dad using a coffee filter, and since then it has become an indispensable item for me until now. I use it almost every morning, then rinse it off and store it in a separate place so that every morning I don't waste time reaching for it when my eyes aren't really open.
Enjoy your cup of coffee and have a nice day!

The humble coffee filter...What a great invention, and where would we be without coffee? Sleepy and slow-minded I'd say!

I knew Vietnam grows coffee; I've been there actually, to Hanoi, but I never realised they were such a big exporter of it. Second behind Brazil is a big deal. So, I'd imagine you have plenty of good coffee available to you and enjoy starting your day with one! Like billions around the world I guess.

Thanks for stopping by the #weekend-engagement topic this week, I hope you will come past again.

I'd love to get back to VN and I'm sure it'll happen at some stage. I'll try some coffee but...Hmm, durian coffee. I've smelled durian and...Not so sure. Coconut coffee would be nice. I sometimes put coconut oil in my espresso in the morning so get an idea of what the coconut flavour would do it. I'll get there no doubt. We can hang out and do a hive meet up...Do a hive post or something like that.

Haha I know you guys don't like durian...well, just give it a try...first time the smell horrible...second time the smell still terrible ..again third time...oh man smell actually not bad...and then many times later you will love it...😀😄
The coconut coffee very delicious
Yes sure @Galenkp, meet up have a coffee tell lies and yes write a Hive post. I'm going to bring some more talkative people here soon...Like @dandays said, I bring one person each week..haha Wait and see tomorrow any new face here haha

Lol...Yeah they sell it here and it's...Smelly. I'm not sure I'd be able to go through the desensitisation process and break through to the sweet spot when it starts to be good. Lol. I'll try it, I promise...Just can't promise any more than that.

You've been doing really well with onboarding...Make sure to support them as they start off and get established. Don't over-promise them either. Make sure they get that it's not a get-rich-quick scheme. ✅ Good work though.

I have a FAB little Vietnamese coffee dripper I bought in Hoi An and I use it ALL THE TIME. I take it with me for travel into the mountains of northern Thailand (where I live) - Thai people GROW awesome coffee but they sure as heck have no idea how to prepare it. LOL.

Missing my beach time in Da Nang and Hoi an so much!! Following you from Chiang Mai, where I've lived for almost 18 years now. 😆

Wow! Wow wow wow. I need one of those drippers. I have been looking for the perfect dripper for my motorcycle camping and there it is.

I just checked Amazon. They don't have that exact one with the lid, but pretty close. I'll give it a try. I'm using a single cup deal now that might work good at home but is pretty clunky in a camp situation. Good coffee though!

Obviously I think pretty highly of your choice. In honor of it I'm going to look at what Vietnamese coffee I can order to have at home. Thank you. (I'm currently drinking Nicaraguan beans).

Here I go again...

Suffering from the dreaded...

Overthinkers Syndrome...

With great inventions like... "The Humble Blow Fan," "The Humble Lead Pencil," and that elusive all too rare, "Cellular Phone."

I find myself at the crossroads of life.

With No Effing Clue...

of what invention to give praise to.

So many inventions have touched my life in some way. From Toilet Paper to a simple Key Ring. Things like that are things you take for granted. Where would you be without them? Locked out and in deep shit me thinks.

I guess I will throw a rock at one of the other things we use nearly every day without giving that invention a second thought. That is until that rock hits it at 60 mph. Or until a Florida Condor, (a protected bird) flies thru it. (true story)

And that is one nasty, foul smelling bird, that eats dead flesh, and is remarkably light in weight for their huge size.

I am referring to an invention we all know as...

The Windshield.

Sammi Windshield 20210216.jpg
Just last week, this humble windshield invention protected Sammi Jo and I from frozen rain, dirt, and debris.

Sammi Windshield 2 20210216.jpg
Here the humble glass ee thru windscreen is frozen over with freezing rain, dirt and other nasty icky stuff, instead of being frozen to my face without it.

Freak Ice Storm 5 20210215.jpg

Fun Facts about the Bonnet or Glass Windscreen -->

"Gas powered automobiles were first produced in the 1890s. Roughly 14 years later, the first windshield was invented. This was nearly a decade with no protection whatsoever. These windshields were made of two-pieced plate glass."

src

So much of my life has been spent behind this amazing and humble inventions protection. It is now known as shatterproof automotive safety glass. Time spent without praise or thought of the debris that would be in my eyes, the welts on my face, or bugs that would be stuck in my teeth.

My Entry is the Humble Glass Bonnet...

Thanks for reading and please...

There you go! Just about the perfect invention for Sammi Jo! I gotta tell you, it's been better than 20 years since my primary ride didn't have a windscreen. I know I'm a water ass, but I'm a mostly happy water ass.

That 14 years? Cars moved so slow then they had the bugs stuck to the back of their heads. Just sayin'

True story. I saw the first Stutz that had safety glass. They used a small wire (You could see the grid) in a glass sandwich. I think it was a '29 but I'm not sure. Was a doctor's coupe (not a bearcat) and one of the coolest cars I've ever seen. Had a pump and copper lines running out of the crankcase so you could lube the chassis all at once. Crankcase held like 11 gallons of oil...

And didn't the windshield fold down when you turned on the AC...?

Ahahahaha. I never had a folding windshield but the trucks I grew up with all had a 'fresh air vent' You pushed a handle in the middle bottom of the dash and this thing on the cab cowling opened up flooding the cab with air, dust and whatever else was in the system. Bugs and mouse nests, generally.

I'll tell you what, I drove a lot of vehicles with 280 AC. Roll down both windows and drive 80 mph. :)

Seriously, you really don't need vehicle AC in Washington state. Unless, of course, the breeze from open windows will muss your hair. That is also, of course, assuming that you give a shit about your mussed hair.

I qualify as that then. This bike, probably my last, is my first windshield. Why did I wait so long. First three bikes had none.

Completely agree with this invention man! I couldn't imagine driving a car or a truck around without a windshield. Countless times I've been driving and have been so glad that I'm in a car and not on a bike with rocks and shit flying up and smacking the windshield. Definitely appreciate a good windshield and a good pair of windshield wipers on any type of inclement weather days for sure!

I like where your head is at man! Those push up bras, mini skirts and other things that make women as lovely as they are could most certainly be some of my favorite inventions by far!

This is a cool topic and an interesting one for sure. Let's see what I can think of for an entry!

I am going to go with a camera at being one of my favorite inventions. It's really a special tool that allows you to be in a moment and just steal the briefest spec of time in that moment and potentially immortalize it for years, decades and over a hundred years. Jury is still out on that since the camera's were just invented less than 200 years ago so we have yet to reach the maximum age of a photograph! The pictures taken really allow you to catalog something in your mind about that particular moment nearly for as long as you live depending on the picture. Some of the pictures we've taken while traveling in Italy, I remember almost exactly what was going on in that moment, where we were, what we were doing and thinking and what came before and after that to an extent. I think that's one of the coolest things that have been invented in my opinion!

0
0
0.000
avatar

I'm glad you agree...Those enhancements take the beauty that is there naturally and makes them fucking awesome! Lol.

The camera is a legit invention and it's hard to imagine a world without them. Of course these days every one has one in their phone but it wasn't that long ago when taking photos wasn't as prevalent. A little further back and most of the world had never seen one! It's difficult to believe now. The memories a photo can bring back, as you say, is amazing...So powerful.

So, that's a good choice I'd say! Nice work.

!ENGAGE 15

Ah yes, the natural curves of the women and accentuated by those thin articles of cloth!

It's good to have the cameras on our smart phones, it has certainly made things convenient and easy but I am still of the type who loves to use an actual camera, mid-range DSLR or just a quick point and shoot digital. They are a lot of fun and have captured some of the fondest memories I have! Without them I could certainly remember the things but the picture nearly instantly brings you back to the moment and I think that ability is truly amazing.

I use my phone camera a lot, probably 80% of the time...It's just easier as you say.

That'd be a really tough choice for me to argue with. About 150 years the camera has been around and the changes are just profound.

It has not changed History so much as it has changed the way we SEE history. Matthew Brady's battlefield dead in the Civil War for example. And it seems that everybody alive today has been permanently recorded on a camera...

0
0
0.000
avatar

Yeah I don't think it's changed history per se but it has certainly changed the way we think of things. Some of the most iconic photographs like the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima (spelling?), the march on Washington for Civil Rights and so many others all captured and etched in the brains of millions. I think I might have seen the Civil War picture but I will check to make sure I am thinking of the right one!

Cameras immortalize the moments we live. They are a fabulous invention and it's impressive how much they have evolved since their creation. It is really impressive what we can do with them today, I can't imagine what they will be like in 20 years.

0

Yeah I know, cameras are incredible! I think things have largely come as far as they can with the lenses and all that and smart phone cameras can get a little better. I think memory and all that will improve over time but there are certain things in technology that have come a long way but have kind of hit their plateau since it's not vastly important to improve it more than it is. Perhaps some of the accessories will get a little cheaper, which wouldn't be the worst I guess!

0

That's a good point, although the level of technology evolution never ceases to amaze me 😊.

I'm totally here for this!!

As a shutterbug (yes I felt like it was time to use that term) myself I'm aware how pictures bring back memories or even feelings. It's a powerful thing!
And since I grew up with pictures and I had them as help or as proof... I wonder how people did it back in the day...
I mean was there memory just better? Did they have more imagination cause they were forced to 'picture' something based on words or a drawing? Or did memories just fade........
I have so many questions!

0
0
0.000
avatar

It's all relative of course but many people did have a bit larger of a hippocampus (I think that's the region, the same region that used to be incredibly prominent in taxi drivers who had such a vast memory of where streets and places were, their particular part of the brain that involved long term memory was significantly larger than most people) because they had to actually remember things. The internet web search generation has smaller memory capacity because many just don't remember things since they can just web search it. I've fallen victim to it a little bit myself but try as hard as I can not to do that!

Shutterbug was totally the right use here! I love when things like that happen, we bust out old terms lol nice!

Ode to the Greatest Invention Ever.

Cradled like a child.
Warm & Soothed
Sensual like my sweetest lover.
Eased beyond pain into rest...
Peace soaking into my very pores.

Into the hot fragrant waters I recline, deep sighs of release & delight.
No judgement is uttered as I'm received completely, naked and as I am.
Even when the ardour cools, I am so soothed and calm it matters not.
He swirls my cares and worries away tidily as I limp off to bed.

Hmm...I've had to shield prying eyes from this image...If you know who sees this there'll be a remodel at great pain to my bank balance!

The humble bath huh? Such a good invention and I'll be honest, I'm not above some tub-time myself, although I'll admit it's rare. I'm more a shower guy. I've tubbed in the wilderness many times...A stream or lake...I did the Kokoda Trail in PNG a while back ant that's all there was...It's sort of freeing I guess...Maybe that's why baths are found to be so relaxing? Takes us back to our cave person days?

Or it could be because the oils or bath bombs, hot water, soothing music and...Even the company.

Legit invention...The G-dog approves.

Gotta say I prefer wild soaking too, although an incident with a large water snake in a water hole out back of the Flinders Ranges years back was more than a little disconcerting. Here? You need to be seriously careful in still water due to all manner of tropical nasties. But I confess I have happily frolicked under many an icy waterfall. LOL. So I can be a shower girl too.

Company in the bath? Yup. That works. 😆😍

Whenever we go on holiday or even when I need to stay somewhere overnight locally, I always check if the room has a shower and a bath. No is a 'dealbreaker' I could not live without my bath, despite it making me sound like a pampered manchild lol.

I could count on one hand the number of days I have not had a bath in the last 2 decades, my bath is my own, private sanctuary, I have my best ideas when soaking in my bath, I learn via e-books and YouTube tutorials and debates while in the bath. It is the place I can most effectively 'process things' and some of the biggest decisions of my life have taken place within it's curved & sloping embrace.

Would you believe me if I told you that I have a fabric bag that cooks meaty stews, soup, beans or lentils and it will continue cooking while you're at work, without fear of burning?
You'll only need to get the cooking process going on your gas or electric stove before leaving for work, pop the pot into a fabric bag filled with repurposed chipped foam and let it sit in a draught-free place without using gas or electricity and you'll have a hot comforting meal ready when you get home in the evening!
The Wonderbag is an amazing South African invention used by rural as well as city dwellers, truly awesome!
I use it to prove bread dough as well, when in a hurry.

It really is amazing @galenkp!
One can buy the Wonderbag online, and the site explains how it was invented and how it works much better so I will quote:

Sarah Collins had a lightning bolt of inspiration one night during one of South Africa’s blackouts and she knew just how she was going to change the world. Heat retention cooking, an ancient yet revolutionary technique that has been around for thousands of years. Enter Moshy Mathe, the founder of the NGO Youth For Survival. Soon after Sarah and her met, the creative sparks flew and she drew the design for the first Wonderbag on a napkin! A cute contraption you can use to continue cooking your food without electricity or using lots of wood for fire once it's on the go.
And so the Wonderbag was born to empower women to feed their families, generate an income, save them time, as well as allow them to cook in a healthier environment without the huge amount of health-damaging smog caused by indoor fire cooking. Today Youth for Survival not only trains women to sew Wonderbags, but also empowers the whole community. Mathe has also opened a shelter for abused women, where they can receive counselling and support to get back on their feet.

Flight is amazing...Thanks to the Wright brothers who became the first humans to fly (hot air balloons aside) we can all experience it. Of course human flight has come a long way since then. Some of the coolest ones I've seen are the people who do it in New Zealand I think, off giant cliffs and stuff. Some of them fly so close to the rock face, it's insane! lol

Edit - it's probably Switzerland that I see often, the Alps are probably the best place to ever do it! I would be more apt to jump out of a helicopter to do it than jumping off a cliff face lol

The best invention for me has been the light bulb, in 1880 Thomas Edison made 1000 attempts to make the first light bulb, this story fills me with enthusiasm.

For me this invention is important and necessary, and easy to use that contributes to a world full of brightness and light.

I share with you a personal experience, I was about 8 years old when in the humble mud ranch where I lived my father installed for the first time a light bulb, (before that bulb there was only a diesel lamp), when we finished the installation we saw that it had a chain to turn on and off, my excitement was so much that I turned on the bulb every so often until the chain was in my hand, I really got a good scare and I got a good punishment too.
Dear readers, the technological and scientific advances that have arisen in the world are worth recognizing that they have been of great benefit to humanity.
It is necessary the innovations, the great and new advances, being these of great impact in the development and modernization of the current world.

I can only agree with you...The light bulb has revolutionised the world. It's also a nice story that you quote...It is difficult to imagine life without the lightbulb, I live in a modern country and have always had them, but for a young girl of eight...It must have seemed miraculous.

Also, you deserved that punishment for breaking it! 🙄

Excellent invitation this week, and very good options of inventions that you name, especially those options that make life easier as the toilet (I can not imagine if we had to use latrine), the washing machine, the optical lenses, or Push up bra's 😆.

After thinking about the proposal, I must highlight music as a great invention!!!

I feel that music has been a great invention, the creation of different sounds and all the powerful effects it has on people are amazing. Music describes a culture, a philosophy of life, it unites people, it's a form of expression and communication, it has healing effects, it connects you with your emotions, it transforms matter and so many other things. It is truly amazing. I share with you a couple of videos about some discoveries they have made with the effects of music, I hope you like it:

Music has a way of reaching inside people and inspiring many emotions, good or bad sometimes...It can bring memories back and has been proven effective with dementia sufferers also. I think it's a good choice for your comment this week!

Nice work.
