Savannah Developers Network Seminar And The Rest Of A Busy Saturday.

Hey guys, if you read my post a few days ago about somethings I’d like to try this year, then this is me starting one of them.

I wrote in that post how I wanted to network crazy this year, and one of the best ways to do that is by going out to meet people at seminars and that kind of stuff.

However for this seminar, I didn’t just go to network. I went to learn. And I did learn a few things.

The seminar was held at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale, Ghana on Saturday, 7th January. It was a seminar by Savannah Developers Network who aim at creating a community to promote and celebrate the tech community in Northern Ghana by supporting each other to achieve great things. Their vision kinda reminds me of a project myself, @zzzinnn and @gunu1 planned on working on but gave up due to a lack of funds and motivation lol.

I’m no developer. But if you know me, you know I love everything Tech so I had to attend. I gained some insight into the fancy things going on in developer’s minds as they work on apps like Inclusion. Oh did I mention I learnt a few of the fancy developer terms too?

I got to the meetup pretty late because I almost bailed cos my procrastination got the better of me, but I overcame it thankfully and made my way there. They were already 30 minutes into the program when I got there. That didn’t stop me from taking a quick 2 or 3 shots though. I remembered I promised someone I’d send them a picture this weekend when I went to the program since I suck at taking pictures of myself.

If you’re wondering how I got someone to take the pictures of me when I just got there, it was @pandev who took them for me. He arrived before me so I called him when I got there to come outside and lead me where they were holding the event.

This is @pandev btw

To my surprise when I got in, most of the people there were people I knew back at school. Even the speaker at the event was a lady I knew from back at school. Maybe that was because my school run a computer science program and the seminar was one for developers (a profession a good number of computer science students aspire to be)

I really enjoyed the program. After the presentations and everything, there was a socialization session which I took advantage of. One of the presenters (apparently the CEO for some start up Tech organization) mentioned earlier in his presentation that they’ll be running a project in Savelugu (my hometown) soon. So I took his number and his assistant’s number and asked them to please hmu if there was any development on the said project.

Of course I’ll talk about the food

God dammnit we were scammed! Before we came for the meetup, savannah developers network sent out a link for interested people to register, and another one a few days later for registered people to confirm that they’ll be attending. Then a day to the event, we got another link asking for details like what our T-shirt size is and all.

This gave a lot of people the impression that the seminar would be a massive one and gave us certain expectations, of which the food apparently was the biggest disappointment. We even overlooked the fact that even though they asked for our T-shirt sizes, they didn’t distribute T shirts or anything of the sort.

That is not to say that we weren’t given food. Of course we were. What kind of seminar organizers would be that evil. I’m complaining because the food was a disappointment, not that we weren’t given any at all.

Unfortunately, I was so hungry I didn’t remember to take a picture before I cleared it. Lol. We were given meatpie and some coca cola drink I’d never seen before until then. It was okay though. We’ve been served worse at seminars when I was back at school💀

All was said and done by 1pm.
It was officially picture time and people were taking pictures outside. I have pictures of a lot of people on my phone from the program. Lol this happens a lot. This one is my friend, his sister and her friend.

After this part, I left the seminar venue. Not to head home though. I crashed at my friend’s shop in town for a while as an escape from my problems which were waiting for me back at my hostel. Lol. I couldn’t eat the food I was served in the seminar in the crowd so I waited after everything was over and I was at my friend’s place. We went to get some Waakye(rice and beans) and a while later, I left.

Later around 4pm, my friend dropped me off at my hostel and I realized one of my worries today was handled in part. I was supposed to pack my stuff to relocate to a new hostel with my friend but it seemed he’d done that already. In fact, I met him painting our new place with his friend covered in paint when I got there.

This meant I had to sit outside and wait like almost 2 hours before they were done. After they were done, the next challenge was scrubbing the floor off paint stains and boy that was exhausting! At some point, we had the bright idea of socking the entire floor in water to kinda dissolve and soften the paint and make it easier to scrub off. This helped a lot to speeden things up. We finished everything pretty late so we forgot we didn’t eat. By the time we remembered, it was too late to find something to buy so we just prayed and prepared for bed.

I haven’t been very active lately because of drama going on about getting a hostel. Maybe I’ll tell you about it some time.

Also, this post is scheduled to be posted because I finished writing it at midnight, so I most likely won’t be around when it’s posted this morning🙂

Every time I see your username I feel sad that you chose it. I don't know why you did, but that's how I feel.

It’s a long story. I didn’t put much thought into choosing it, and by the time I realized I should’ve, I felt like it was a bit too late to change an account.

I get you, but if you can, don’t be sad about it lol. G-dog, you’re a very chill man so I’d be happy if you just thought of it as a silly name some dude picked by mistake. A rookie mistake that stuck with me:)

Yep, I figured that was the case. it's unfortunate.

I don't cry or anything, the G-dog only cries when the donut and coffee shop run out of donut's and coffee...or hits his thumb with a hammer...But yeah, a more inspiring name would have been better huh?

I also find the username weird, but I also know other users who regret the names they have chosen but what's done is done.

I just hope you're not depressed right now. Have a nice day @depressedfuckup ❣️.

You're right, there's many who haven't put much thought into it.

You live for the camera, I doubt you do anything iconic without taking pictures, and seeing you even have a personal photographer for this event alone is cheeky hahaha. I can relate to terrible food at events, infact it's the most depressing thing ever. Hahaha glad you later settled for another food later. Your new place is looking well placed. Hahaha.

I live for the camera? Come on I barely take pictures of my self😂…I mean, I sure take a lot of pictures of my environment, but that’s mostly it. You know that🙂

About my my new place, I basically just shortened the story. It’s actually a lot lot complicated. Maybe I’ll tell you about it soon.

You live for the camera, no kidding hahaha. I think you're a spontaneous camera person and I gives ideas for content creation

Well, despite the bad food, I hope you learned something, at least to say that it was worth attending. I'm glad you're taking care of your goals for this year so quickly, it's not even halfway through January and you're already getting down to business. Congrats :)

I don’t doubt you would. There’ll be plenty more though after you guys are done. I wanted to say during vacation but I know even if I was in school with you now, we probably wouldn’t come home for the vac. Especially with final year and all.
