Gartner: AI To Replace 69% Of A Manager's Workload

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already disrupting many industries. This is causing anyone who watches the technology field to monitor what is taking place.

Those who argue that AI is not going to replace jobs since it makes doing repetitive task obsolete are in for a new surprise.

Gartner concluded that, by 2024, AI is going to replace 69% of a manager's workload. This means taking a big onus off those who are in management.

Of course, this should raise a few eyebrows since part of what manager's do is make decisions. Replacing those tasks that line workers do is fairly simple compared to the tasks that managers are required to perform.

Companies are looking to cut payroll in whatever fashion they can. One of the big benefits to AI is that it is fairly simple to create If/Then programs. This is a great deal of what management does on a daily basis. When there is a set protocol in place, with a series of instructions to follow, an AI program can easily be written to follow the decision tree. In fact, for many companies, creativity is not usually at this level.

Thus, we could see a reduction in the number of mid-level managers as compared to what we have today.

At the same time, it is important to question how human workers will take to answering to a computer. If the AI is taking over a majority of the tasks, this means people will have to answer to it. We already see this happening at Amazon warehouses where the AI monitors the pace which people are working. Those who fall behind are issued a warning by the computer. Failure to correct one's output means the computer will issue a termination notice.

It is a future that is likely to be expanded.

This is where Gartner is standing.

Application leaders focused on innovation and AI are now accountable for improving worker experience, developing worker skills and building organisational competency in responsible use of AI.

"Application leaders will need to support a gradual transition to increased automation of management tasks as this functionality becomes increasingly available across more enterprise applications," said Poitevin.

However all of this turns out, one thing we can say about the future is that things will be different.
