Google Warning Of Automated (AI-Run) Economies

It is time for people to wake up.

This is not something that is really up for speculation anymore. The future is autonomous and we are going to see entire economies that are automated. Ai is penetrating everything.

What we are going to see is a stark contrast between the past and future. Whereas labor is a vital component to the economy, that is being replaced by capital. Those with the means are able to capture the bulk of economic output. We saw this with the early phases of the Internet.

AI is going to accelerate this.

What does this mean for humanity? The answer to this lies in the actions that are taken today. If people are passive, they will get run over by what is taking place. Instead of positioning themselves for participation, they will be made redundant.

The time to act is how. Naturally, this is going to take the interaction of tens of millions.

Google Warning Of Automated (AI-Run) Economies

So what are we dealing with?

Basically it is AI agents operating as the primary actor of economic productivity. This is compounded when those agents are integrated into robots.

This new economic layer will feature AI agents transacting and coordinating at speeds and scales far beyond human oversight.

The impact reaches far beyond labor. Markets are going to see both positive and negative impacts. Small inefficiencies can be exploited by AI due to the speed of operations. This can benefit those behind the bots yet also post market risk.

At the core is the human economy. How will that look in the future? Will the AI-run economy be deeply integrated into that or walled off? These are decisions that all involved need to make.

Decision-Based Economy

So far, automation on the Internet was relegated to task based operations. We all have encountered the bots that hit us up repeatedly. This can occur on social media, via email, or, increasing, in messenger applications.

The basic essence of the bot is to complete a task such as replying to a post. In this sense, it is still "dumb".

That is changing. The capabilities of these models is growing. Hence, the agents are moving into the decision making realm.

What will result is an automated decision-based economy where the agents, driven by ever more powerful algorithms, take over larger portions. In some ways, this is going to be highly beneficial while it could be a detriment in others.

Agents are going to be making autonomous economic decisions. This could impact the human based economy as these actors ultimately operate in ways that might be counter to individuals. We already see businesses adopting Agent-as-a-Service models being offered by major cloud providers.

Here is where the size and proverbial network effects starts to enter. Are we dependent upon a small handful of companies that provide the agentic power? How much compute will individuals have access to? When you think about it, an agentic economy is limited only based upon the amount of compute. Since that is a fixed resources, albeit growing at a fantastic rate, the agents can swallow up whatever is available. This will certainly be true when they are able to autonomously replicate.

As always, distribution and decentralization are important. There are some hurdles that are forming, especially in the area of compute. For this reason, conscious effort needs to be given by each individual.

The bottom line is the automated economy is on the way. How we structure things should be the primary concern.

AI presents both opportunity and threats. To be even more precise, we have to understand that the threats AI can pose are all human driven. Just as said, people creating bots to take advantage of all market flaws. So the problem is not just AI as AI but AI in the hands of wrong humans
