Brave Talk - A New Feature with Brave Browser

If you are someone like me who exclusively uses Brave browser then you must have noticed the latest flurry of ads. I allow the maximum number of ads on my browser. It is to earn more BAT and let run the Brave ad business. The ads are the lifeline (sort of) of the browser as it helps the team to demonstrate the use case of the project to potential sponsors. Although the Brave team is the third party in between users and advertisers, the model they developed is aiming to reduce the middle-agents from the ad business. The browser allows users to decide whether they want to monetize their attention or not without compromising the privacy. I am not a tech person to know if they are truly doing that but I believe them anyway as they are the lesser evil of the other existing browsers.

BAT is the token that runs the ad ecosystem on Brave. Users receive BAT for their attention and the token can also be used to gift and transfer value. The tokens you would receive using the browser is not huge. It ranges from 1 to 5 BAT for me after a month of use. It is not much but it's a proof that the system can work and can scale if adopted by the mass.

I am bullish on the project since the day I downloaded the browser. The BAT price action has not yet seen the parabolic gain like other tokens. It could be due to the lack of adoption of the browser as expected initially. It could also be because of the fact that users don't trust the institution behind the project as an entity to promote decentralization. Not sure why, but the token has 5X during this bull market since the day I downloaded the Browser 18 months ago.

A New Product

Irrespective of the price action, the team has introduced a new feature. It is called Brave Talk and has a basic and premium feature. The premium service requires fee and provides more features compared to the basic plan. I have used the service and it is like any other remote working video call app. Nothing new but the team is claiming this service to be private without any tracking.

Users don't need to download a new app. They can use the browser to start the call. Privacy concerns are huge and users may want to try this out. However, the adoption will depend on how large the Brave userbase is. It is unlikely that new users will first hear about the talk feature and then go on to download the browser. It would be natural for existing users to use the new feature with the browser they already have in their machines.

I’ve seen it as well when I open a new tab. It’s great to see that’s for sure! I miss the days of getting 15-40 brave a month lol. I think my best month for rewards was 43 brave just about.

It is hardly more than 3 BAT these days. May be they are targeting new users instead of existing users with new ads
