Blockchain Technology || Are We Halfway There Or Living On A Prayer

Cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. They've been all the rage the past few years ever since 2009. That's about thirteen years now and counting. A lot of things have happened since then. People have bought pizzas with bitcoin, different coins have drastically gone up and down in price, many trades have been made. People have gotten rich, but others have also lost a lot of money. The point here being that a lot has happened.

Even the application side of blockchain technology has made big steps forward. It used to mostly be a concept, but over the last years we've seen different use cases arise in different applications or project. For an example of this look no further than the platform we are on right now. First came that other blockchain, which was a massive hit. Then it changed to a massive flop and Hive rose from the ashes in all it's gloriousness.

But are we there yet? Or is it just the beginning? Or perhaps we can quote Jon Bon Jovi and say we're halfway there. Maybe there's not even a "there" to get to, if blockchain might be just a phase in human society that will pass as quickly as it became popular. I personally think that won't be the case and that we're about at a quarter of the peak potential of blockchain technology.

This means that we have a long way to go. It will take quite a while to get to decentralized utopia, as many imagine it. Anything can happen along the way. And it might not even be as I'm saying right now, since I don't have a crystal ball and all. Blockchain is a force to be reckoned with, and for now it seems unstoppable, moving forward at a fast pace, trying to reach its ultimate final form. When this happens it will not be about investing and making quick profits, but more so actual benefits of decentralization. Until then all we can do is speculate and say: Ooooh, we're halfway there.

Big thumbs up for the Bon Jovi quote! I grew up with his songs and my favourite was "Have a nice day", but "Living on a prayer" has been a corner stone as well!
I think that the most important thing for us is beeing the "Keeper of the Seven Keys", quoting Helloween this time. We must share knowledge about real decentralization, before big players enter too deep into them market sharing centralized systems, that eventually may happen to seem more remunerative, in the short term, losing their mean in the long term because of centralization. Something like happened with banks in history.

There's so many, too many too name. Bed of Roses, I'll be there for you, Always. To name a few of the greats from Bon Jovi. :) !LUV
I was introduced to Helloween by a very good friend of mine. They've been in my playlist ever since.

Jup, I think the big boys taking over is inevitable. We already see the effects with bitcoin. We as smaller fish need to make sure we are on the right side of history.

I'd like to think that we're just at the start!

It will be interesting to see as banks and grubberments coopt the crypto idea to create programmable money.

I don't think we are halfway there just yet. Most of the current systems are still centralized and they are in Web 2.0. So until more people transition over, I think it will be a while.

True. It's the same with all the different frontends for Hive. They are all centralized, but because there are so many, they give a decentralized vibe.

Slow and steady I guess. Rather be the tortoise than the hare in this case. !LOL
