Something in your post reminds me of reports that I've been reading in the past few weeks about US regulators seeking to implement strict rules on Defi and other blockchain technologies.
I think that contemporary governments are pretty analogous to the ones we saw in the old ages in trying (and failing) to quell a revolution. And despite how nasty their moves could be for short-term prices, I strongly believe they will eventually fail again just as they did in the past

They were designed to operate in a physical realm, now trying to oversee something that is completely digital.
It isnt going to happen. Like you said, they will fail.
