Decentr: Profit by Leveraging Your Privacy

Think of how life would be if you had the ability to browse the web with complete control over who can see, what they can see, and the profit they make from your data. Now, what if you could keep that data private and leverage it for profit from those same actors to who it was once freely available? To answer this question I must say everyone should want to profit from their day to day internet activities. This brings me to the big moves that the Decentr team has made to start out 2021 with the launch of version 1.0 of their initial testing web browser extension, eventually to become a full web browser. While the initial browser extension release is obviously going to have some flaws and not include the full suite of modules, it’s hard to beat the fact that all the data generated is logged on the blockchain. (browser extension currently available only for firefox but should launch on Chrome soon)

Privacy continues to slip away from every single person who uses the internet and not only that, but our readily available data is utilized by large companies who sell it to advertisers. Decentr now gives us the ability to leverage our personal data against whoever might be interested in that information and get paid for the data you are willing to release. Now the most and only known (Only known to me) comparison I can make to Decentr is with Brave. While Decentr is just an extension in the early stages, the only real comparison that can be made is the rewards that are received from “privacy-respecting ads” in Brave to all of your data in Decentr. With all of the data being logged on-chain, there is the added benefit of knowing that data is probably more secure than it has ever been before.

What’s more, is that not only can you earn a passive income simply by using the extension but you will earn more the more you use any function online that generates data. This feature is known as Personal Data Value (referred to as PDV) and is somewhat similar to what PreSearch is doing with paying individuals for utilizing their search engine. However, Decentr utilizes any search engine you would like to use and as long as some form of data is generated on-chain then your PDV will increase and not strictly through searches. For example, they have a full selection of topics in which Decentr users can post about virtually anything on their dHub module and each post will generate some on-chain activity. Once posted and logged on the Decentr blockchain other users are able to view and like or dislike the posts all of which contribute to on-chain data and further increased PDV for both users. Being version 1.0 and only being out for about a week they have some improvements to make with the algorithm for PDV thus the value of PDV will not be available until mainnet launch.

The dedication of the Decentr team over the past few years is already paying off in my opinion, with full dWallet integration and PDV already being live upon testnet launch. Honestly, I hate to bash on Brave but with the ad revenue payout decreasing and the fact that BAT is an Ethereum token makes it virtually unusable with the outrageous magnitude of gas fees. While Decentr’s DEC (I like to call it the Decentralized Economic Currency) is currently an ethereum token the full dEcosystem is based on its own blockchain and will be converting the tokens in the future. From my understanding of the technicals behind the dEcosystems utilization of DEC will be as the on-chain currency at the center of the dEconomy with the PDV playing a vital role in the earning possibility. When the mainnet is launched not only will they have PDV fully integrated but they will also have Ad Data Value or ADV and Business Data Value or BDV integrated with PDV.

Now might be the point where the picture is begging to become clear and the understanding that Decentr is the furthest thing from mere privacy-enhanced web3.0 enabled browser. The Decentr blockchain is built with scalability and economic viability at its heart to encourage Dapp and DeFi growth while maintaining fast transaction speeds with low economic and environmental costs. Without a doubt, I believe this project will have incredible growth of the dEconomy upon launching mainnet and will quickly become a top contender.
