Wasn't there any users' comments available on the online shopping website? I know we have to take those with some grains of salt, but a large number of comments usually give a pretty good picture of what to expect (especially if the same details come back several times). On the personal side, I have always use that as a quality metric when buying stuff online, and it worked in about 80-85% of the time I would say.

At present time, a product to be bought online with a description not including numbers of users' comment is a 'no no' for me. This allows me to avoid many surprises (even if I could miss great opportunities too; there is no free lunch).
