☆ THE CHANGING WORLD

Do you remember the mid-20th Century, around 1942, when the only thing we could do with the computer was to solve systems of linear equations?

Oh yeah!

I remember clearly!

You also remember that it was only in March 1972 that we first experienced the ground breaking moment in history when the first email was sent, and this paved way for the emergence of the Ethernet.

The Ethernet could connect systems together to form a local area network and this accelerated the development and evolution of the World Wide Web

But then, this is the 21st Century, and those who were born in this century will not relate with what I am saying.

I bet they won’t!

You know I was born in the late 19th Century, right?

YES! YES!! YAS!!!

Well, it is important to say that there have been massive development and evolution in the World Wide Web (Web) along the ages.

☆ THE WORLD WIDE WEB (WEB)

In simple terms, the web refers to the website pages or contents we see when we log on to a website through a browser.

For instance, when you click on www.facebook.com, the page that displays in the browser is called the Web.

Screenshot_20220918-190038_Chrome.jpg

That’s all!

Easy peasy!

png_20220406_111102_0000.png

☆ WEB 1.0

The first version of the web was the Web 1.0 and this web version could easily be classified as CONTENT VIEWER VERSION.

In Web 1.0, few people would create some static web pages (with html) which contains information, facts and other forms of contents. Users could only view these contents and read them only, there was no opportunity for users to bring in their contribution.

This form of web lacked the dynamics, beautification, modern graphics and artificial intelligence that we enjoy this present moment.

WEB 2.0

To solve the defects of Web 1.0, Web 2.0 emerged.

In Web 2.0, we moved from CONTENT VIEWER VERSION (of Web 1.0) to CONTENT USER VERSION. Put differently, in Web 2.0, users had the opportunity to also participate and contribute to the web pages, and not just viewing.

What this means is that Web 2.0 increased the User’s experience and activity in the web such that users could form communities to dialogue and interact. Hence, the social media evolved from Web 2.0.

Wait!

Just wait!

You know that your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tiktok and Youtube are all fruits of Web 2.0, right?

Yes, they are!

So yes, this is what Web 2.0 is.

However, we know that in Facebook, Twitter and the rest, you only have partial ownership of your account such that at any moment Facebook or Twitter can decide to suspend or terminate your account for life; they could also take down some posts you make because you violated their rights.

So, yes, Web 2.0 has its flaws and defects.

png_20220406_111102_0000.png

WEB 3.0

In Web 1.0, we enjoyed CONTENT VIEWER VERSION of the web, and with Web 2.0 we progressed to a CONTENT USER VERSION of the Web.

But now, the world is indeed a changing world; a world that yearns for growth and progress.

We are in the era of Web 3.0.

Web 3.0 brings in a unique aspect and development to the World Wide Web as it turns users from just Content Viewers or Content Users to CONTENT OWNERS.

You know that Web 3.0 is built on Blockchain technology, right?

Yes, it is!

And this makes it transparent, open, secure, decentralized and fast. It also uses Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to update its autonomous actions.

Just like John Terra said in his article on the Comparison between Web 1, 2 and 3:

Web 1.0 is the “read-only Web,” Web 2.0 is the “participative social Web,” and Web 3.0 is the “read, write, execute Web.”

Web 3.0 makes users content owners, grant them freedom to interact publicly and offers them trustless data (not exposing their data to risk). It is a fertile ground for Metaverses, blockchain games (like Splinterlands, dcrops) and it facilitates Decentralized Finance (DeFi).

You know Hive is running on Web 3.0, right?

Can you testify that you have experienced all I am saying?

Are they correct?

YES! YES!! YAS!!!

☆ WILL WEB 3.0 BE THE END OF THE WEB?

Like I said, “Web 3.0 is not the future” in quote.

You know what?

We are at the cross road of moving from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0, and we all know that it has been a hell of a journey, but it is one that will be achievable in the coming years, maybe partially.

So, yes!

Web 3.0 is the Now!

Web 3.0 is the moment!

We are moving towards the full realization of Web 3.0!

However, the world yearns for development and progress, and thus, I see a future that goes beyond Web 3.0

This is because, the world is a changing world.

So, after the world has a full or 50% grasp of Web 3.0, I see a stronger Web force taking over in the changing world, to update and advance the world with the latest technological discoveries.

There are talks of the existence of Web 4.0, and I even saw a joke Tweet of Web 8.0.

Well, they are what they are: “TALKS”

Let us enjoy Web 3.0 first and then, others can follow.

Interesting!! I think I agree with you that web 3 is not the future, the world is indeed a changing world and there are still more evolution and civilization to come.

I do mind you Sam, what can you do about that? 🙄

Oh yes, even as web three has a very promising future for this generation, I'm very sure there will be more to come, hehe.
