The distant future is what we all want to know about, but it’s so far away that it can seem impossible to get an idea of what it will look like. There are many different theories about it, and some people think that in the distant future, humans will be able to live forever; others think that there will be a war for resources and we’ll all die out. Some people believe that in the distant future, humans will have evolved into something else entirely and there won't be any need for us anymore.

In the distant future, it is difficult to imagine what our lives will look like because the rate of change is so rapid. But we can make some predictions based on where we are now.

Technology is changing so rapidly that in the next few years, life will be unrecognizable from how it was in the past--in terms of how we interact with others and how we get around, what information and entertainment resources are available to us, even how we think about our jobs and careers. It’s already happening. We are seeing these things rise daily.

The world is changing so fast, and the future is going to be very different from what we are used to. When is the Distant Future and what might become of us?

Even though the idea of the distant future is a future that is by definition very far away, being a future period that is 5, 10, or 15 years into the future in the most conservative estimates, and sometimes as high as 30 years.

Regardless of how far away it is, we all need to think about it and prepare for it. How can we do that? By taking small steps to be pro-active members of the future. What does this mean? It means that we need to prepare ourselves for this future through self-improvement and creativity.

Although the distance in space may not be too great, the time difference makes it seem very remote. This future has been invoked to discuss everything from the projected death of our sun billions of years from now to upcoming advances in nanotechnology.

We can proactively become members of the distant future by starting small. For example, we should make sustainable food choices because climate change is already affecting what we can grow and what we can eat. And other ways have been to focus on renewable energy sources, like solar power and wind power as they are more sustainable than other sources.

The future is here today. Every day we feel the impacts of the technology that is slowly being put in our hands. It’s looking as though it will be more and more difficult to find a job in this world without a proper education in IT, engineering, or robotics.

As intelligent machines are getting smarter and more competent every day, it will be harder for us to compete with them. They don't require breaks, paychecks, or contracts. They’re never late or absent from work and they never take sick days.

Humans are not just competing against each other but they are also competing against robots that have taken over the workforce and have infiltrated our homes as assistants. The work-life balance has been thrown off balance by these new inventions that supposedly make human lives easier but most often than not take away our jobs.

We can only be ready

When we are thinking about our future, we usually think about the time when we retire or when our kids grow up and become independent. But what if we start thinking proactively of the distant future and its effects on humankind?

Imagine the changes in our world economy, environment, technology, politics, and even our finances that will happen in the next 10-30 years. It would be wise to start considering how these factors might affect us so that we can make informed decisions on how to live a happy life.

The only way to control the future is to proactively shape it. However, the future will be different from the past not just because of inevitable global changes but also because of rapid technological disruptions. We are now capable of changing our circumstances to a degree that was never before possible in history.

We are living in a world where machines and technology are becoming more intelligent than humans. Soon, how would these machines change our daily lives? Will we always be able to tell what is real and what is fake? How would these new realities affect our jobs, lifestyle, and relationships with each other and family? Maybe, the distant future has an answer.
