RE: Blockchain belongs everywhere!

This made me think of the Beef industry in Canada. When a calf is born, within 24 hours, it gets an ear tag. That ear tag has an RFID in it that gets scanned every time a vet examines the animal, then when the animal is leaving for the slaughterhouse, then the tag is "retired" at the slaughter house.

Just like weed (legal in Canada), that whole process could also be a beautiful opportunity for Blockchain developer.

I did a quick search and couldn't find the same thing with the USDA, but I imagine it's there, I just couldn't find it.... or maybe it's at the state level...

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense to me. I think there are a lot of things that blockchain would be perfect for. It is just crazy to me there is no existing software. This is the perfect opportunity for the right person to get their foot in the door.

The only risk I see is the transparency issue. The specific example is that with the blockchain, any entity (good or bad) would be able to see the location of all products at all times. So the developer would need to work on a form of encryption to obfuscate the specifics unless you purchased the software and obtained your key. But ... there are some brilliant minds out there that could resolve that in the amount of time it took me to write this. ;-)

Yeah, I think there are some private blockchains that also have some use cases here. Say if you have several locations you could still make it somewhat "decentralized". Spin up a node at each office and just have them verify against each other.

I chatted with a couple chain developers over lunch and one mentioned https://origintrail.io. As a blockchain solution that's progressing in this space. (But not necessarily Marijuana related).

I know you weren't actually looking for a solution ... but the more data points, the better.

Yeah, for sure! That is really cool! They should let their marketing team know there is a potential untapped sector just waiting to be conquered!
